Beat — Revenue $9.83M vs ~$8.82M consensus; within prior $9.8M-$10.0M preliminary range
Profound Medical’s earnings confirm surging TULSA-PRO sales, higher margins and lower cash burn, while the biggest revenue beat was already previewed.
Profound is a commercial-stage medtech company trying to turn TULSA-PRO’s growing installed base, payer coverage and clinical evidence into recurring procedure revenue. The quarter shows that commercialization is accelerating, but the final filing is more confirmation than surprise: management had already previewed $9.8M-$10.0M of Q3 revenue, while a published Q3 consensus was about $8.82M.
Revenue cleared the published bar, but not the information bar. Q3 revenue reached $9.83M, up 86% year over year, versus roughly $8.82M consensus; that is a clear earnings beat on the latest published estimate, but the number landed inside the company’s earlier preliminary range. Capital equipment drove most of the increase, while recurring non-capital revenue was essentially flat year over year. The result validates stronger system-placement activity, but does not yet show a comparable acceleration in the recurring revenue stream.
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue (Income Statement) | $9.83M (+86%) | $5.29M | $8.82M |
| Gross margin (Financial Highlights) | 78% | 74% | |
| Operating expenses (Financial Highlights) | $15.50M (+21%) | $12.84M | |
| Diluted loss per share (Income Statement) | $0.21 | $0.26 | ~$0.19 |
| Operating cash used, nine months (Cash Flow statement) | $24.93M | $31.64M |
The quality of growth improved, but profitability remains unfinished. Gross margin expanded to 78%, above the company’s 70% full-year floor, while nine-month operating cash use fell 21% year over year and Q3 cash use fell sharply sequentially. That is meaningful progress for a company still funding commercial expansion, although operating expenses rose 21% and the business remained loss-making. 〔0〕
The commercial story is strengthening, but the new channels still need to convert. The installed base reached 98 systems, payer coverage expanded by 10.7 million lives during the quarter, and the qualified sales pipeline reached $79.2M. The Cook Medical distribution agreement and Telix co-education agreement broaden reach, but both are adoption mechanisms rather than reported revenue; the filing provides no order value or timing that would make the pipeline a near-term forecast.
Leadership succession looks designed for scale, not a crisis response. Richard Fabian becomes CEO on January 14, 2027, while Arun Menawat moves to Executive Chairman and Matthew Sobczyk becomes permanent CFO. Because the transition is planned and preserves Menawat’s involvement, it adds continuity while putting a more commercially experienced operator in charge of the next scaling phase. 〔1〕
Cash runway is adequate for now, but the financing question is deferred rather than eliminated. Profound ended September with $33.3M of cash and said current resources should fund at least the next 12 months. Management also left open both dilutive and non-dilutive financing, so the filing reduces immediate funding pressure without removing future capital needs as the company expands.
Bottom line: This is a modestly better quarter operationally, with a real revenue and margin beat, but most of the headline surprise was already previewed. The business is advancing toward commercial scale, not yet demonstrating a clean transition to profitability.
