Pulse Biosciences thyroid trial clears efficacy bar with safety intact

Above the bar — 86% reached ≥50% reduction; median reduction 72%

Pulse Biosciences’ thyroid trial delivers strong six-month interim data, but the result strengthens a secondary program rather than rewriting its AF-led story.

Pulse Biosciences is primarily building its nsPFA platform around atrial-fibrillation catheters, while Vybrance remains in a controlled commercial launch and the thyroid program is a smaller supporting application. The company had already completed enrollment of 100 PRECISE-BTN patients in September and previewed interim data, so the direction was anticipated; the efficacy and safety magnitude is the new information.

The study cleared its stated efficacy bar decisively. The primary endpoint required at least 50% nodule-volume reduction at six months, and 86% of evaluated patients reached it, with a 72% median reduction. That is a meaningful validation of the early feasibility work in a prospective, multicenter study rather than just a favorable early case series. 〔0〕 〔1〕

Median nodule-volume reduction (Study results)72%50% endpoint

The clinical profile strengthens the product’s practical case. The release reports no serious adverse events, significant symptom and quality-of-life improvements, and preserved thyroid function in hyperfunctioning-nodule patients, although the interim update does not provide a full adverse-event table or comparative control arm. 〔2〕 〔3〕

The impact is positive but contained at the company level. These data advance the thyroid/Vybrance application and support the claim that early feasibility results can be reproduced across three U.S. centers, but Pulse is allocating its primary effort toward atrial-fibrillation devices. The result therefore improves confidence in the broader platform without yet changing the central regulatory, commercialization, or revenue story.

Bottom line: This is a solid clinical validation for the thyroid application and better than the study’s minimum success bar. It matters, but mainly as incremental platform support while the company’s larger value-creating program remains atrial fibrillation.
