CFO appointment — Permanent role after serving as acting CFO since September 8
Laser Photonics makes its acting CFO permanent while adding outside reporting help—strengthening governance, but underscoring unfinished controls work.
Laser Photonics is trying to expand from industrial laser products into a broader defense and directed-energy platform, with recent growth driven partly by acquisitions and new defense applications. Its 2025 sales rose 144% to $8.3 million, while its counter-drone laser system advanced toward prototyping in 2026. The filing makes the finance leadership transition permanent, but the appointment itself is not new. Tim Peterman had already been serving as acting CFO since September 8; the new information is the formal three-year employment agreement and permanent designation as principal financial and accounting officer. 〔0〕 The more consequential signal is the reporting-control cleanup around him. The company says Peterman’s appointment, outside securities counsel and CBIZ’s reporting work are intended to establish financial accountability, strengthen reporting processes and build governance infrastructure. 〔1〕 That is useful infrastructure for an acquisition- and growth-oriented company, but it also confirms that reporting processes and controls still need active remediation rather than being a finished capability. Laser Photonics had previously disclosed ineffective disclosure controls, and its 2026 updates have emphasized restoring filing compliance as the business expands. The employment package is meaningful but not transformative. It includes a $300,000 base salary, a potential bonus of up to 60% of salary and equity awards equal to 80% of base salary, alongside severance protections; those terms secure a full-time finance leader but do not change the company’s products, revenue outlook or capital position. Bottom line: This is a governance and execution-support step, not a business inflection point. It modestly improves the credibility of Laser Photonics’ reporting infrastructure, while the need for outside control support keeps the signal mixed rather than cleanly positive.
