Miss — Diluted EPS $1.26 vs ~$1.48 consensus
Global Partners’ Q3 earnings missed consensus despite a sharp wholesale-margin and cash-flow rebound; weaker retail volumes temper the story.
Global Partners is an integrated liquid-energy distributor and retailer built around terminals, wholesale fuel logistics, and convenience locations; before this report, the 2026 story was strong execution, with Q2 EPS of $1.86 versus roughly $1.24 consensus and management highlighting balance-sheet flexibility for disciplined growth.
The quarter missed the published earnings bar despite strong underlying cash generation. Diluted EPS was $1.26 versus a published consensus near $1.48, while sales of $6.68 billion were below the roughly $7.41 billion expectation. That makes the formal scorecard a miss, even though earnings and cash flow were far above last year.
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Diluted EPS (Income Statement) | $1.26 (-14.9%) | $0.66 | ~$1.48 |
| Sales (Income Statement) | $6.68B (+42.4%) | $4.69B | ~$7.41B |
| Adjusted EBITDA (Financial Reconciliations) | $122.9M (+24.4%) | $98.8M | |
| Adjusted DCF after preferred distributions (Financial Reconciliations) | $69.7M (+35.3%) | $51.5M | |
| Wholesale product margin (Segment results) | $111.4M (+42.8%) | $78.0M | |
| GDSO product margin (Segment results) | $210.6M (-3.8%) | $218.9M |
Wholesale did the heavy lifting. Wholesale product margin rose to $111.4 million from $78.0 million as gasoline and distillate market conditions improved, and that more than offset the retail side’s weaker contribution.
The weak spot was physical retail demand, not station operations. GDSO product margin declined modestly, with gasoline-distribution margin falling to $136.8 million from $144.8 million, while station operations were broadly steady. Total volume was flat, but GDSO volume fell about 7.5% and commercial volume about 16.4%, consistent with higher pump prices weighing on demand.
Cash-flow coverage improved materially, but the quality of the quarter was market-sensitive. Adjusted distributable cash flow after preferred distributions increased to $69.7 million from $51.5 million, while adjusted EBITDA rose 24%. However, much of the incremental profit came from favorable wholesale market conditions rather than broad volume growth, so the result strengthens near-term distribution capacity more clearly than it proves durable demand expansion.
The capital structure is a supporting positive, not the main news. The Series B preferred units were redeemed in July, eliminating that preferred distribution burden, and management said the credit facility was extended to 2031.
Bottom line: Global Partners is executing well in wholesale markets and producing substantially more distributable cash, but the quarter still landed below the earnings and revenue bar because retail and commercial volumes weakened. The business story is mixed, leaning slightly negative rather than materially damaged.
