Delek US earnings beat as refining margins surge and guidance rises

Beat — Adjusted EPS $13.55 vs ~$7.39-$8.06 consensus

Delek US earnings beat expectations on a powerful refining quarter, while higher EOP guidance and a near-net-cash standalone balance sheet strengthen the story.

Delek US is a refiner-and-logistics operator coming out of its Big Spring turnaround with its full system online, improving reliability, and an Enterprise Optimization Plan already targeting roughly $220 million of annual run-rate cash-flow improvement. The prior quarter had established the recovery and strong-margin setup; this filing shows the upside was much larger than expected.

The quarter was a clear earnings beat, not merely a favorable comparison. Adjusted EPS reached $13.55 versus published Q3 estimates clustered around roughly $7.39-$8.06, while adjusted EBITDA more than doubled year over year to $1.28 billion. The filing says, “The refining segment Adjusted EBITDA was $1,242.1million in the third quarter 2026 compared with $697.4million in the same quarter last year,” and “Delek US's benchmark crack spreads were up an average of 191.2% from prior-year levels.”

Q3 2026Q3 2025Consensus
Adjusted EPS (Financial Highlights)$13.55$7.13~$7.39-$8.06
Adjusted EBITDA (Financial Highlights)$1,280.4M$766.7M
Refining adjusted EBITDA (Segment results)$1,242.1M$697.4M
Net cash provided by operations (Cash Flow statement)$567.4M$44.0M
Net cash debt excluding DKL (Net Debt reconciliation)$(21.9)M$273.8M

The quality of the beat is strong operationally, but unusually helped by external and accounting-sensitive items. Refining production margin excluding small-refinery exemptions rose to $38.56 per throughput barrel from $9.59, and all four refineries posted materially higher margins. That reflects real execution—full-system availability, advantaged crude access, and strong distillate and jet yields—but it also reflects a refinery margin environment that was dramatically better than last year. The filing also records a $334.7 million third-quarter reduction in the consolidated net RIN obligation from EPA exemptions, so the headline GAAP profit and adjusted results should not be treated as a normal run rate. 〔0〕

The underlying result still clears the bar even after stripping out the exemption benefit. Adjusted EPS excluding SREs was $10.53, up from $1.52 a year earlier, and adjusted EBITDA excluding SREs was $1.04 billion versus $325.7 million. That makes the quarter more than an RIN accounting story, although the size of the outperformance remains tied to unusually wide crack spreads rather than simply a structural step-up in earnings power.

Management also increased the part of the story it can control. EOP improvement guidance rose again, from $220 million to at least $250 million, following the increase from roughly $200 million to $220 million earlier in 2026. This is a genuine incremental positive because it raises the expected benefit from the company’s cost and efficiency program rather than merely repeating the existing target.

The balance sheet is materially cleaner, with capital allocation becoming more credible. Delek US ended the quarter with $1.34 billion of cash, generated $567.4 million of operating cash flow, and had $21.9 million of net cash excluding DKL. It also expects to pay down its term loan in the fourth quarter and plans to repurchase up to $100 million of stock, although the recently issued $460 million of zero-coupon convertible notes means the balance-sheet improvement comes with potential future dilution and added capital-structure complexity.

Bottom line: This is a meaningful beat-and-raise quarter that strengthens Delek’s execution and cash-flow story. The result is genuinely better than expected, but the exceptional refining environment and large renewable-fuel exemption benefit make the earnings level less repeatable than the headline numbers suggest.
