BioAge Labs earnings miss as clinical spending accelerates

Miss — GAAP EPS loss $0.73 vs published estimates around $0.63-$0.68 loss

BioAge Labs’ third-quarter earnings missed published loss estimates, while QUELL-CV enrollment finished and cash runway remained through 2029.

BioAge is a clinical-stage biotech moving BGE-102, its oral NLRP3 inhibitor, through Phase 2 cardiovascular and diabetic-eye studies while building an APJ obesity program. Before this release, the broad roadmap was already established: QUELL-CV data were expected in the second half of 2026, QUELL-DME data in the second half of 2027, and cash was expected to fund operations through 2029.

The quarter itself was a miss, not a business setback. BioAge reported a $0.73 GAAP loss per share versus published estimates clustered around a $0.63-$0.68 loss, while collaboration revenue was only $0.3 million versus $2.1 million a year earlier. The revenue decline was largely an accounting effect from the Novartis amendment rather than a collapse in the collaboration, but the reported earnings profile was still worse than expected.

FigureQ3 2026Q3 2025Published estimate
Collaboration revenue (Financial Results)$0.3M$2.1M~$0.9M-$1.5M
Net loss per share (Income Statement)$(0.73)$(0.56)~$(0.63)-$(0.68)
R&D expense (Income Statement)$30.2M$18.5M
Net loss (Income Statement)$(33.5M)$(20.2M)
Cash, equivalents and securities (Financial Results)$352.3M

The underlying pipeline advanced, but mostly along the expected path. QUELL-CV finished enrollment at approximately 160 participants, with topline data still expected in the fourth quarter of 2026; QUELL-DME had already begun after its first participant was dosed in September; and the APJ program remains targeted for an IND by year-end. These are meaningful execution milestones, but the direction was already public, so they do not fully offset the earnings miss. 〔0〕

Spending is rising because the company is entering the more expensive clinical phase. R&D expense jumped to $30.2 million from $18.5 million, driven primarily by QUELL-CV and QUELL-DME trial costs and drug manufacturing. That is strategically understandable, but it means the next major value test is now clinical data rather than financial performance.

The balance sheet still supports the stated development plan. BioAge held approximately $352.3 million in cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities and reiterated funding through 2029. That reduces near-term financing pressure, although the cash balance is lower than the $381.3 million reported at June 30, 2026, as clinical spending ramps. 〔1〕

Bottom line: BioAge delivered a modest earnings miss while executing on a previously signposted clinical roadmap. The business story is still centered on the upcoming QUELL-CV readout; this filing weakens the quarter, but does not materially change the development story yet.
