Miss — Revenue $0.28M vs ~$3.45M consensus; EPS -$0.11 vs ~-$0.12
NuScale’s third-quarter earnings show a major manufacturing milestone, but revenue remains negligible and misses consensus as commercialization stays ahead of sales.
NuScale is still a pre-commercial SMR developer moving from design validation toward manufacturing, with ENTRA1 and TVA representing the key prospective deployment channel. The market had already seen the Doosan manufacturing agreement and recent supply-chain milestones, so the operational headline is partly known rather than a fresh commercial breakthrough.
The business took a real step toward production. NuScale says it signed Doosan Enerbility to fabricate the upper reactor coolant system, the first physical-production milestone for its commercial module. 〔0〕 That advances the core story from “approved design” toward manufacturability, but it is not yet a customer delivery or revenue-generating project.
The quarter missed on revenue, even though EPS slightly beat. Revenue was only $281,000 versus approximately $3.45 million of published consensus, while loss per share of $0.11 was modestly better than the roughly $0.12 expected. The revenue shortfall is less damaging than it would be for a mature company because NuScale is between development contracts and commercial module sales, but it confirms that the production milestone has not yet translated into meaningful business volume.
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue (Statements of Operations) | $0.28M | $8.24M | $3.45M |
| Loss per share (Statements of Operations) | $(0.11) | $(1.85) | $(0.12) |
| R&D expense (Statements of Operations) | $18.0M | $11.1M | |
| Cash, investments (Balance Sheet) | $1.86B | $1.29B | |
| Operating cash used, nine months (Cash Flows) | $401.4M | $255.9M |
Liquidity buys time, but the company is spending ahead of commercialization. NuScale ended September with roughly $1.86 billion in cash and investments, supported by $984.5 million of net common-stock issuance during the first nine months. That is a substantial funding cushion for supply-chain and production work, but the share count rose from 318.5 million to 410.5 million, so the runway was partly purchased through dilution rather than operating progress.
The positive operating signal is execution, not demand conversion. R&D rose by $7.0 million as NuScale worked on component readiness, while revenue fell because the prior-year Fluor engineering work had ended. The filing therefore strengthens the manufacturing-readiness narrative, but gives no new binding customer order or evidence that the ENTRA1–TVA dialogue has become a contracted deployment.
Bottom line: NuScale made genuine progress toward building its first commercial reactor module, but the quarter still looks like a pre-revenue transition rather than a commercial inflection point. The manufacturing news is modestly encouraging, while the revenue miss and continued cash burn keep the overall read mixed rather than decisively positive.
