Beat — Revenue $509.3M vs ~$500M consensus; diluted EPS -$0.28 vs ~-$0.42
Neighborhood Intelligence earnings beat on revenue and EPS, but integration costs, operating losses and cash burn show the turnaround remains unfinished.
Neighborhood Intelligence is in the middle of an acquisition-led shift from an online retailer into a broader omni-channel home platform, integrating Kirkland’s and The Container Store while rebuilding its store, supply-chain and home-services footprint. The prior quarter had already established the integration and cost-savings plan, including more than $50 million of targeted annualized savings, so this release is mainly a test of execution rather than a surprise strategic pivot.
The quarter beat the published earnings bar, but mostly because the business is now much larger. Revenue reached $509.3 million, roughly 2% above the published consensus near $500 million, while diluted EPS of negative $0.28 was better than estimates around negative $0.42 to negative $0.48. The headline growth is acquisition-heavy: $229 million of the year-over-year increase came from acquired businesses, while core e-commerce grew about 9%.
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Net revenue (Statements of Operations) | $509.3M (+98.0%) | $257.2M | ~$500M |
| Diluted EPS (Statements of Operations) | $(0.28) | $(0.07) | ~$(0.42) |
| Gross profit (Statements of Operations) | $172.9M | $65.2M | |
| Operating loss (Statements of Operations) | $(62.1M) | $(12.5M) | |
| Adjusted EBITDA (Adjusted EBITDA reconciliation) | $(26.5M) | $(4.9M) | |
| Operating cash flow (Cash Flow statement) | $(118.4M) | $(50.2M) |
The underlying operating engine is not yet profitable. Gross margin was about 34%, but the quarter benefited from a planned $14 million purchase-price-accounting adjustment and was still burdened by inventory cleanup. Operating expenses jumped to $235 million from $77.6 million, producing a $62.1 million operating loss. Adjusted EBITDA also deteriorated to negative $26.5 million from negative $4.9 million, even after excluding $19.7 million of special items. The release’s claim that the legacy e-commerce business reached adjusted EBITDA neutrality therefore does not describe the consolidated enterprise.
Liquidity is the main constraint on the integration story. The company used $118.4 million of operating cash in the first nine months and ended September with $127.2 million of cash, cash equivalents and restricted cash, while also carrying $212.8 million of long-term debt and $443.6 million of non-current lease liabilities. Management points to inventory and real estate as additional liquidity sources, but those assets do not remove the need to convert the enlarged platform into positive cash flow.
The new 2027 framework is ambitious but not especially aggressive versus the outside bar. Management expects $2.0 billion to $2.1 billion of 2027 revenue and 33% to 34% gross margins, with positive cash flow targeted for the second half of 2027. That revenue range sits below the published 2027 consensus around $2.16 billion, while the cash-flow milestone remains dependent on mid-single-digit organic growth, further cost savings and successful home-services expansion. 〔0〕
Bottom line: This was a beat against the quarterly earnings bar, but not a clean operational win. The acquisitions are adding scale and customer activity faster than expected, yet the consolidated business is still losing money, consuming cash and relying on a long integration runway before the strategy can be judged on cash generation.
