Beat — Diluted EPS $1.30 vs ~$0.93 consensus
Power Solutions earnings beat consensus and lifted its second-half sales outlook, while debt fell sharply and tariff benefits mask some margin pressure.
Power Solutions is transitioning from weakness in oil and gas toward data-center power, while ramping Wisconsin manufacturing capacity and repairing its balance sheet. The prior quarter’s plan called for second-half 2026 sales to be roughly in line with the prior year as larger orders moved into production.
The quarter beat the market’s low bar by a wide margin on profit. Diluted EPS of $1.30 was well above the published consensus near $0.93, while revenue of $202.1 million was broadly in line with estimates around $200 million. The earnings upside came from sharply better manufacturing efficiency, lower overhead and lower interest expense—not from top-line growth. 〔0〕
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Net sales (Financial Highlights) | $202.1M | $203.8M | ~$200.1M |
| Gross margin (Financial Highlights) | 29.7% | 23.9% | |
| Diluted EPS (Financial Highlights) | $1.30 | $1.20 | ~$0.93 |
| EBITDA (Financial Highlights) | $42.7M | $29.8M | |
| Operating cash flow (Cash Flow statement) | $40.9M | $3.3M |
The underlying margin improvement is real, but the reported peak is not fully repeatable. Gross margin expanded to 29.7% from 23.9%, helped by Wisconsin efficiency gains, but the $3.8 million tariff refund contributed roughly 188 basis points and is not expected to recur. Management also expects fourth-quarter margin to be modestly lower as data-center products carry lower margins than oil-and-gas products and ramp-up costs continue. 〔1〕 〔2〕
The business outlook improved, even without formal full-year guidance. PSI raised its second-half sales view from approximately matching the prior year to exceeding it as larger Power Systems orders enter production. That is a meaningful change to the standing story, although customer scheduling, material constraints and manufacturing throughput still leave the timing uncertain. 〔3〕
Cash generation materially strengthened the transition. Third-quarter operating cash flow reached $40.9 million, allowing PSI to reduce total debt by roughly $34.9 million and finish the quarter with approximately $34.3 million of net cash. The new $220 million revolver also extends liquidity through September 2029, giving the company more room to fund capacity investments as larger orders ramp.
Bottom line: This was a clear earnings beat and a genuine upgrade to the near-term revenue trajectory, strengthening PSI’s data-center transition. The main qualification is that part of the margin surge came from a one-time tariff refund, so the business improvement is better than the headline revenue but less durable than the quarter’s profit numbers suggest.
