Beat — Revenue $31.7M vs ~$30.3M consensus; EPS $0.02 vs ~$0.01
Playboy’s Q3 earnings beat consensus as Honey Birdette grew, China licensing accelerated, and a Miami Beach club added a new capital commitment.
Playboy is in the middle of a turnaround built around high-margin licensing, media and hospitality, with Honey Birdette serving as the direct-to-consumer growth engine. Its recent strategy has emphasized simplifying operations, reducing debt and producing recurring licensing revenue while restoring profitability.
The quarter beat a low but relevant bar. Revenue of $31.7 million exceeded the published consensus of roughly $30.3 million, while diluted EPS of $0.02 was about twice the roughly $0.01 estimate. The business also delivered its seventh consecutive quarter of positive adjusted EBITDA. 〔0〕
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue (Financial Highlights) | $31.71M (+9.4%) | $28.99M | ~$30.32M |
| Operating income (Financial Highlights) | $4.00M (+193%) | $1.37M | |
| Net income (Income Statement) | $1.86M (+305%) | $0.46M | |
| Diluted EPS (Income Statement) | $0.02 | $0.00 | ~$0.01 |
| Adjusted EBITDA (EBITDA reconciliation) | $7.92M (+95%) | $4.07M |
The improvement is operational, but not entirely recurring. Honey Birdette revenue rose 12.1% and direct-to-consumer gross margin expanded to 62.2%, while licensing revenue grew 5.3% as China royalties increased. However, Playboy attributed much of the operating-income jump to lower legal expenses and the release of a U.S. sales-tax reserve, so the 193% profit growth overstates the underlying run rate.
The core growth mix is moving in the right direction. Honey Birdette is growing while selling more at full price and improving margins, and China added three licensing agreements with approximately $15 million of combined contract value. Those trends support Playboy’s licensing-led model more directly than the promotional and content initiatives do.
The Miami Beach club is the main complication. Playboy is committing approximately $5 million of cash to acquire the Freehand property, even though its stated strategy is asset-light. Partners will invest alongside it and membership sales could recoup the investment, but this shifts part of the story toward capital-intensive hospitality before the filing provides evidence of club-level returns.
Bottom line: This was a genuine earnings beat with better execution at both Honey Birdette and licensing, but the quality of the profit improvement is somewhat diluted by one-time benefits. The new Miami club adds strategic ambition—and capital risk—to an otherwise increasingly credible turnaround story.
