Revenue chief change — Smith scaled Splunk ARR above $4B
Cloudflare’s executive-change filing names Christian Smith as President of Revenue, replacing retiring Mark Anderson as the company scales its enterprise growth engine.
Cloudflare is in an AI-fueled expansion phase, using rising demand for network security, connectivity, and AI-agent infrastructure to push deeper into large enterprise accounts; it had already raised its 2026 revenue outlook after a strong second quarter. The $5 billion ARR ambition is also not new: Cloudflare framed the same target when it appointed Mark Anderson in February 2024.
The leadership transition is orderly, not a strategy reset. Christian Smith replaces Mark Anderson, who had already announced his retirement from the full-time role at year-end. 〔0〕 Anderson will stay on as an adviser through December, reducing the risk of an abrupt handoff. 〔1〕
The replacement is credible for Cloudflare’s next scaling challenge. Smith brings enterprise go-to-market experience from Splunk, Cisco, and other software companies, including experience shifting customers from perpetual licenses to recurring cloud revenue. The filing says he helped scale Splunk’s ARR above $4 billion, a relevant track record as Cloudflare tries to move from high-growth platform adoption toward repeatable, large-account expansion. 〔2〕
The signal is modest because the business proof comes later. The appointment supports Cloudflare’s existing $5 billion growth narrative, but it does not add bookings, guidance, customer metrics, or evidence that Smith has already improved execution at Cloudflare. The retirement was previously known, so the genuinely new information is the choice of successor rather than the existence of a transition.
Bottom line: Cloudflare has made a sensible, continuity-focused revenue leadership change during an important scaling phase. It modestly strengthens the execution story, but it does not materially change the underlying business outlook yet.
