Moelis & Co (MC) · Nov 5, 2026 · Earnings
Beat — Adj. EPS $0.75 vs ~$0.72 consensus; revenue $425.6M vs ~$434.2M consensus
Moelis earnings show fee growth and an adjusted EPS beat, but revenue missed consensus and margins narrowed as hiring and investment costs rose.
Moelis is an independent advisory bank expanding its senior coverage and investing in newer growth areas such as private capital, private credit, technology, infrastructure and healthcare. Its model is transaction-driven, so the key question is whether added bankers and client activity are converting into completed deals and fees; the firm’s broader platform includes roughly 1,500 professionals across 24 locations.
The quarter produced a modest earnings beat, but not a clean top-line win. Adjusted diluted EPS was $0.75 versus a published consensus of roughly $0.72, while revenue was $425.6 million versus approximately $434.2 million expected—an EPS beat paired with a roughly 2% revenue miss. The revenue growth itself was healthy, rising 13% year over year.
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue (Selected Financial Data) | $425.6M (+13%) | $376.0M | $434.2M |
| Adjusted diluted EPS (Selected Financial Data) | $0.75 (+10%) | $0.68 | ~$0.72 |
| Adjusted pre-tax margin (Financial Highlights) | 21.4% | 22.2% |
The underlying business is growing, but the cost of expansion is visible. Management attributed the revenue increase to higher average fees per completed transaction, while compensation and non-compensation costs rose with headcount, new office space, technology and AI investment, and greater client activity. That left adjusted pre-tax margin at 21.4%, down from 22.2% a year earlier. 〔0〕
Capital returns and the balance sheet remain supportive rather than surprising. Moelis declared its regular $0.65 quarterly dividend, held $658.7 million of cash and liquid investments, had no funded debt, and repurchased approximately 2.6 million shares during the first nine months. Those actions reinforce financial capacity, but they do not materially change the operating story.
Bottom line: Moelis is executing a growing advisory franchise well enough to beat on adjusted EPS, but the revenue miss and lower quarterly margin keep this from being a clean positive. The filing modestly advances the growth story rather than rewriting it.
