Miss — Diluted EPS $1.64 vs ~$1.79 consensus
DXP Enterprises’ third-quarter earnings delivered record sales and wider margins, but diluted EPS missed the published consensus despite strong organic growth.
DXP is an industrial distributor pursuing a two-engine growth model: steady organic expansion across service centers and pumping solutions, supplemented by acquisitions. That strategy was already visible before this release; second-quarter results showed 15.6% sales growth, a $1.76 EPS result, and four acquisitions completed through June.
The operating engine kept accelerating, but the earnings bar was higher. Third-quarter sales rose 14.3% year over year to $587.2 million, slightly above the published consensus of about $584.5 million, while diluted EPS of $1.64 came in below the approximately $1.79 consensus. The result is a real earnings miss, even though the business continued to grow.
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sales (Financial Statements) | $587.2M (+14.3%) | $513.7M | $584.5M |
| Diluted EPS (Financial Statements) | $1.64 (+25.2%) | $1.31 | ~$1.79 |
| Adjusted EBITDA (EBITDA Reconciliation) | $67.3M (+19.0%) | $56.5M | |
| Adjusted EBITDA margin (EBITDA Reconciliation) | 11.5% (+0.5 pts) | 11.0% | |
| Free cash flow (Free Cash Flow) | $14.4M (-48.7%) | $28.1M |
The quality of growth was better than the headline EPS miss suggests. Organic sales reached $538.3 million, up about 8.7% year over year, while acquisition sales contributed $48.8 million versus $18.4 million last year. Innovative Pumping Solutions was the standout segment, with sales up roughly 43%, and total segment operating income grew about 13%.
Margins strengthened, giving the underlying operation a positive read. Adjusted EBITDA grew faster than sales, lifting the margin to 11.5% from 11.0%; operating income margin also improved to 8.9% from 8.5%. That indicates execution and mix were healthy, but not enough to overcome the gap between reported EPS and the unusually high consensus estimate.
Cash generation was the weak spot this quarter, while the nine-month picture improved. Quarterly free cash flow fell to $14.4 million from $28.1 million, even as nine-month free cash flow rose to $70.5 million from $19.5 million, helped by much lower capital spending. The balance sheet still supports the acquisition program, but cash declined to $218.8 million from $303.8 million at year-end, and total debt was $839.5 million.
Bottom line: DXP’s core business is executing well, with organic growth and margins both improving, but the quarter still missed the market’s EPS expectation and produced softer quarterly cash flow. It modestly weakens the near-term earnings read without overturning the broader acquisition-and-growth story.
