OUTFRONT Media earnings beat revenue, miss EPS as costs climb

In line — Revenue $511.1M vs ~$508.7M consensus; diluted EPS $0.36 vs ~$0.39

OUTFRONT Media’s third-quarter earnings beat revenue expectations, but EPS missed as SG&A surged and margins narrowed despite strong transit growth.

OUTFRONT is in a growth-and-investment phase, monetizing stronger out-of-home advertising demand through digital, programmatic and transit assets while still managing elevated MTA costs and corporate spending. Its prior-quarter story already pointed to strong revenue momentum and investment in data, technology and sales capabilities.

Revenue execution was modestly ahead of the bar, led by transit. Third-quarter revenue rose 9.3% year over year to $511.1 million, slightly above the published consensus of about $508.7 million. Transit revenue jumped 20.4%, while billboard revenue grew a more moderate 5.9%, helped by yield, digital platforms and FIFA World Cup activity.

The earnings miss reflects cost pressure rather than weak demand. Diluted EPS of $0.36 trailed the roughly $0.39 consensus despite higher operating income, because SG&A increased 23.1% to $129.5 million. Billboard and transit SG&A rose 21.0% and 26.0%, respectively, as OUTFRONT spends on compensation, professional fees, software, technology and sales infrastructure.

Transit is improving the story, but margins are not yet broad-based. Transit adjusted OIBDA rose to $28.9 million from $15.7 million, and its margin expanded to 21.4% from 14.0%. Billboard remains the larger profit engine, but its margin compressed to 37.3% from 39.5%, while corporate costs excluding specified adjustments rose 29.1% to $23.5 million. That leaves the business growing, but with a meaningful portion of the incremental revenue being reinvested or absorbed by higher costs.

The full-year message was maintained, not upgraded. Management said it expects 2026 to be a double-digit revenue-growth year, reinforcing the existing growth narrative rather than creating a new one. The filing also makes clear that current and future MTA equipment deployment costs are unlikely to be fully recouped, an ongoing drag that remains unresolved. 〔0〕

The dividend increased, but balance-sheet flexibility remains constrained. The quarterly dividend is now $0.33 per share, up from the previously disclosed $0.30 rate, while total indebtedness stood at $2.5 billion and cash at $74.1 million. Operating cash flow improved sharply, but the company continues to carry substantial leverage and paid $164.4 million in dividends during the first nine months.

Bottom line: The quarter confirms healthy demand and especially strong transit execution, but it does not cleanly advance the story because higher spending diluted the profit upside and EPS came in below consensus. Overall, this is a mixed, roughly in-line earnings update rather than a decisive change in trajectory.
