Beat — Adjusted EPS $1.45 vs ~$1.34 consensus
Solventum’s Q3 earnings beat consensus and its full-year EPS outlook rose, though ERP cutover timing pushed organic sales down.
Solventum is still in the middle of its post-3M transformation: simplifying into a more focused MedTech company, completing a major ERP rollout, and preparing to separate Health Information Systems. The ERP-related sales disruption and the HIS separation were already part of the standing story, so this quarter mainly tests execution against that plan.
Underlying earnings execution was better than expected. Adjusted diluted EPS came in at $1.45 versus published consensus of roughly $1.34, while revenue of $1.949 billion was modestly above the roughly $1.93 billion estimate. Management explicitly said the quarter was ahead of its expectations, and the company raised its full-year adjusted EPS outlook. 〔0〕

The sales weakness is more timing-related than structural, but not entirely harmless. Reported sales fell 7.0% and organic sales fell 2.8%, with the company attributing roughly 630 basis points of pressure to orders pulled into the prior quarter before the ERP cutover. 〔1〕 That explanation was expected, but the quarter still shows uneven demand: Advanced Wound Care and Health Information Systems grew organically, while Infection Prevention and Surgical Solutions and Dental Solutions declined sharply.
The guidance raise is the clearest improvement in the story. The company now expects to land near the top end of its full-year organic sales growth range and lifted adjusted EPS guidance after the Q2 increase. That matters more than the headline revenue decline because it suggests the ERP disruption is being absorbed without derailing the year’s profit plan; however, adjusted operating margin still slipped 70 basis points year over year, so the improvement is not yet broad-based.
The transformation continues to add operational complexity. Solventum said separation from 3M is more than 90% complete and highlighted FDA clearance for combining Restrata with V.A.C. Therapy, supporting the Advanced Wound Care portfolio. 〔2〕 These are constructive execution markers, but they do not yet change the larger need to prove that sales momentum and margin expansion can accelerate after the ERP transition and planned HIS separation.
Bottom line: This was a modestly better quarter than expected, with an EPS beat and a higher full-year outlook offsetting weak, largely anticipated ERP-affected sales. It strengthens the execution story without rewriting it.
