Beat — Revenue $10.3M vs ~$3.42M consensus; EPS $(1.30) vs $(1.62) consensus
Vera Therapeutics’ Q3 earnings beat on early Trutakna sales, while final trial data and an FDA filing strengthen the drug’s approval path.
Vera is moving from clinical-stage biotech to commercial launch, with TRUTAKNA now its first marketed product after accelerated FDA approval in July 2026. Published expectations called for only about $3.42 million of Q3 revenue and a $1.62 per-share loss, while broader estimates expected roughly $24 million of TRUTAKNA revenue for all of 2026.
The launch started materially ahead of the low initial bar. Q3 net product revenue was $10.3 million versus no revenue a year earlier and about $3.42 million of published consensus, while the $1.30 per-share loss was also better than the roughly $1.62 consensus loss. The company also reported approximately 700 Patient Start Forms since launch, giving the commercial story an early proof point rather than just an approval headline.
| Metric | Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus / comparator |
|---|---|---|---|
| Net product revenue (Financial Results) | $10.3M | $0 | ~$3.42M |
| Net loss per share (Financial Results) | $(1.30) | $(1.26) | $(1.62) |
| Net loss (Financial Results) | $(93.7M) | $(80.3M) | |
| Selling, general and administrative (Financial Results) | $61.4M | $27.5M | |
| Operating cash used, nine months (Financial Results) | $(305.9M) | $(171.1M) | |
| ORIGIN 3 annualized eGFR slope (ORIGIN 3 results) | -0.6 | Placebo: -5.6 |
The clinical evidence materially strengthens the commercial product’s foundation. Final ORIGIN 3 results showed kidney-function decline nearly stabilized relative to the placebo trajectory, with a 5.0 mL/min/1.73m²/year treatment difference and a reported 76% reduction in composite kidney-disease progression risk through two years. Vera said TRUTAKNA met all prespecified endpoints, and the data supported its November 3 submission for full FDA approval. 〔0〕
The trade-off is a much heavier commercial cash burn. Selling and administrative expense more than doubled as Vera built its launch organization, and operating cash use for the first nine months rose to $305.9 million from $171.1 million. The company still had $384.0 million in cash, equivalents and marketable securities at quarter-end and drew $75 million in late October, but the launch must convert early prescriptions into sustained revenue before the financial profile improves.
Bottom line: This is a clear earnings beat alongside unusually strong confirmatory clinical data, advancing Vera’s story from “approved launch candidate” to “early commercial product with a stronger full-approval case.” The launch is still young and cash-intensive, but the filing is meaningfully better than the standing expectation rather than merely on plan.
FDA full-approval decision expected in mid-2027
