Guidance cut — FY revenue $759.5M-$761.5M vs $765M-$769M prior
BlackLine earnings showed solid margins and cash flow, but slower deal timing cut 2026 revenue guidance despite a narrow EPS beat.
BlackLine is shifting from financial-close software toward an agentic financial-operations platform, using governed AI and its Finance Control Console to expand across the Office of the CFO. That strategy is aimed at larger, longer enterprise commitments, but the transition has also lengthened customer evaluations and sales cycles.
The quarter itself was broadly in line, not a clean beat. Revenue of $193.4 million landed slightly below the published consensus of about $194.2 million, while diluted non-GAAP EPS of $0.64 was just above the roughly $0.63 consensus. Against BlackLine’s own Q3 revenue guide of $193 million to $195 million and EPS guide of $0.62 to $0.65, execution was inside the expected range. The company delivered 8.5% revenue growth, with GAAP operating margin improving to 8.6% from 4.3%.
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue (Financial Highlights) | $193.4M (+8.5%) | $178.3M | ~$194.2M |
| Diluted non-GAAP EPS (Non-GAAP reconciliation) | $0.64 | $0.51 | ~$0.63 |
| Non-GAAP operating margin (Non-GAAP reconciliation) | 25.9% | 21.4% | |
| Free cash flow (Non-GAAP reconciliation) | $57.5M | $57.0M | |
| Remaining performance obligation (Financial Highlights) | $1.1B (+14.3%) |
The important change is the lower outlook, not the quarterly numbers. Full-year revenue guidance fell to $759.5 million-$761.5 million from the prior $765 million-$769 million range, implying that slower customer decision timing is affecting near-term growth. The new Q4 revenue guide of $195 million-$197 million is also below the roughly $200.6 million-$204.6 million implied by the previous full-year range after nine-month revenue. The prior outlook had been maintained at $765 million-$769 million after Q2, so this is a genuine reset rather than routine confirmation.
Profitability and cash generation cushion the growth slowdown. Non-GAAP operating margin rose to 25.9% from 21.4%, free cash flow was essentially flat year over year at $57.5 million, and RPO grew 14.3%. Those figures suggest the platform transition is not breaking the operating model, but they do not offset the fact that near-term bookings and customer decisions are taking longer. BlackLine also repurchased about $39 million of stock and increased authorized buyback capacity by $100 million, which supports per-share results but does not solve the revenue-timing issue.
The AI story is advancing, but commercial conversion remains the proof point. Customers are adopting the platform, RPO is growing faster than revenue, and BlackLine added NetNow to expand Invoice-to-Cash. But management explicitly attributed the updated outlook to the timing of customer decisions, making execution speed—not product ambition—the immediate constraint.
Bottom line: BlackLine is executing profitably and building a credible AI-led platform, but the lower 2026 revenue outlook says customer adoption is converting more slowly than expected. The quarter was healthy; the reset to near-term growth makes the overall filing modestly negative versus the prior business outlook.
