Construction Partners earnings miss EBITDA as fuel and weather bite

Miss — FY26 Adjusted EBITDA $520–524M vs prior guide $559–569M

Construction Partners’ earnings show record growth, but fiscal 2026 EBITDA missed prior guidance as weather and diesel costs pressured margins.

Construction Partners is an acquisitive, vertically integrated Sun Belt road-infrastructure platform, expanding through local operating companies, asphalt plants and greenfield locations. Before this release, the business had a record $3.36 billion backlog and a raised fiscal 2026 EBITDA target of $559–569 million, with management emphasizing organic growth plus acquisitions as the core model.

The growth engine worked, but profitability did not meet the prior bar. Preliminary fiscal 2026 revenue of $3.66–3.68 billion landed inside the company’s August guidance of $3.64–3.68 billion, but Adjusted EBITDA came in at $520–524 million versus the prior $559–569 million target. That is a meaningful shortfall, not just a timing difference, and the company attributes the damage primarily to unusually wet July weather and a rapid diesel-cost spike. 〔0〕

The fiscal 2027 outlook preserves the expansion story, but not an immediate margin breakthrough. The midpoint implies roughly 15% revenue and EBITDA growth, including 6%–8% organic revenue growth. However, the projected 14.0%–14.5% EBITDA margin is broadly flat against the weak fiscal 2026 exit and well below the prior fiscal 2026 target. Management is effectively asking investors to wait for the second half of fiscal 2027, when acquired lower-margin backlog rolls off and fuel-cost pass-through catches up. 〔1〕

Acquisitions continue to add reach, but also raise the execution burden. The company completed seven acquisitions and four greenfield locations during fiscal 2026, then added Piedmont Paving in Georgia and said it had already completed three fiscal 2027 acquisitions. Piedmont adds a Newnan asphalt plant, more than 110 employees and exposure to the Atlanta-area I-85 corridor, reinforcing the platform’s geographic density but also increasing the amount of integration and backlog conversion required to restore margins. 〔2〕

The central change is a shift from clean execution to growth under margin pressure. Fiscal 2026 still delivered approximately 30% revenue growth, 40% net-income growth and 23% Adjusted EBITDA growth, so the underlying expansion remains substantial. But versus the standing expectation, the release shows that weather, diesel inflation and acquired-project mix consumed more profitability than management had previously allowed for. 〔3〕

Bottom line: ROAD is still expanding rapidly, but this filing weakens the near-term execution story because fiscal 2026 EBITDA and net income missed the company’s own targets. The 2027 outlook keeps growth intact, yet margin recovery is deferred rather than demonstrated now.
