MACOM earnings beat as Q1 guidance points to another sharp step-up

Beat — Adjusted EPS $2.09 vs ~$2.00 consensus; revenue $424.8M vs ~$420.4M

MACOM earnings beat Q4 revenue and adjusted EPS expectations, while Q1 guidance signals continued data-center-led acceleration and margin expansion.

MACOM is in a high-growth semiconductor expansion phase, with Data Center demand increasingly important alongside Industrial & Defense and Telecommunications, while it is also investing in supply-chain resilience through its IQE relationship. The quarter cleared an already-high bar. Q4 revenue reached $424.8 million, modestly above the published consensus of roughly $420.4 million, while adjusted diluted EPS came in at $2.09 versus about $2.00 expected. The filing says revenue rose 24.1% sequentially and adjusted operating income rose to $162.3 million from $107.7 million.

Adjusted operating margin (Adjusted income from operations)38.2% (+6.7 pts)31.5%25.6%

The more important signal is the forward step-up. MACOM guided fiscal Q1 revenue to $450 million-$460 million, adjusted gross margin to 62%-63%, and adjusted EPS to $2.21-$2.29. That implies another roughly 6%-8% sequential revenue increase from Q4 and puts the earnings range materially above the roughly $431 million and $1.96 per share published forward estimates available before the release. The guide suggests the current demand and mix tailwind is continuing rather than merely reflecting a one-quarter catch-up.

The margin expansion makes the growth more credible. GAAP gross margin reached 59.9%, up from 54.5% a year earlier, while adjusted operating margin reached 38.2%, up from 25.6%. The improvement is not just revenue leverage: quarterly operating expenses were $120.4 million, down from $122.4 million despite revenue growing sharply.

Cash generation is strong, but working capital is absorbing part of the growth. Operating cash flow reached $357.1 million for fiscal 2026, up from $235.4 million, yet accounts receivable increased to $209.5 million from $148.6 million and inventories to $284.3 million from $237.8 million. The company also repaid $161.2 million of convertible notes and ended with $112.0 million of cash, alongside substantial short-term and long-term investments. 〔0〕 This is not a balance-sheet problem in the filing, but it means continued execution will require converting the reported demand into shipments and cash.

The headline earnings improvement is cleaner operationally than the prior-year comparison suggests. Fiscal 2025 included a $193.1 million primarily non-cash debt-extinguishment loss, so the swing to $335.3 million of GAAP net income overstates the underlying year-over-year improvement. The more useful measure is adjusted net income, which rose to $435.7 million from $263.4 million, with adjusted EBITDA increasing to $460.3 million from $274.8 million.

Bottom line: This was more than a routine beat: MACOM exceeded a strong Q4 expectation and raised the operating trajectory again for Q1. The event strengthens the existing data-center-led growth story, though the size of the next step still depends on sustaining demand while working capital and manufacturing investment rise with it.
