Cabaletta Bio, Inc. (CABA) · Nov 5, 2026 · Earnings
Beat — EPS loss $0.28 vs ~$0.32-$0.33 consensus
Cabaletta Bio earnings beat the published loss estimate and cash now funds operations into 1Q28, but the myositis BLA target moved later.
Cabaletta is a late-stage biotech building rese-cel, a CD19 CAR-T therapy for autoimmune diseases, with myositis as its lead path toward a first potential approval and systemic sclerosis now becoming its second registrational program. Before this filing, management had been targeting myositis BLA activity in 2H27 and expected its cash to fund operations only into mid-2027; the quarter therefore matters mainly for funding, development timing, and whether clinical execution remains on track.
The quarter beat the narrow financial benchmark, but it was not an operating improvement. Reported diluted EPS was a $0.28 loss versus a published consensus around $0.32-$0.33 loss, while research and development spending rose to $47.1 million from $39.8 million and the net loss widened to $53.1 million from $44.9 million. The EPS beat is largely a financing-and-interest-driven quarterly comparison, not evidence that the underlying clinical burn rate improved.
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| R&D expense (Third Quarter 2026 Financial Results) | $47.1M (+18.4%) | $39.8M | |
| G&A expense (Third Quarter 2026 Financial Results) | $7.6M (+11.8%) | $6.8M | |
| Net loss (Statements of Operations) | $53.1M | $44.9M | |
| Diluted EPS (Statements of Operations) | $(0.28) | $(0.44) | $(0.32)-$(0.33) |
| Cash and short-term investments (Selected Balance Sheet Data) | $299.4M |
Funding is the clearest improvement to the business story. Cash rose to $299.4 million, including roughly $115 million from warrant exercises, and management now says that balance funds the operating plan into 1Q28. That is a meaningful extension from the prior mid-2027 runway and reduces the immediate financing pressure surrounding the registrational program. 〔0〕
Clinical execution advanced, but the lead regulatory timetable moved later. Cabaletta initiated the approximately 25-patient systemic-sclerosis interstitial-lung-disease registrational cohort, as previously expected for late 2026, and continues to enroll myositis and juvenile myositis patients. 〔1〕 However, the myositis topline target is now 2H27 and the planned BLA is 1Q28, later than the prior framing of a 2H27 filing. The company presents the delay as a way to include juvenile-disease and longer-duration data, but it still extends the time before the lead asset can reach regulatory review.
The upcoming data are now the main test of whether the expanded runway is buying genuine progress. Cabaletta is scheduled to present one-year dermatomyositis responses and updated safety data at ACR Convergence on November 8-10, while its preconditioning-free trials are expected to inform development plans in the first half of 2027. These are clinically important milestones, but the filing provides no new registrational efficacy readout today.
Bottom line: Cabaletta is better funded and slightly ahead on quarterly EPS, but the core myositis approval path is taking longer. The event modestly strengthens execution capacity without materially changing the clinical proof still required.
