Korsana earnings confirm 2029 runway, but Alzheimer’s drug remains preclinical

In line — Cash runway into 2029; Phase 1 data mid-2027 and patient proof-of-concept by YE2027–Q1 2028

Korsana’s third-quarter earnings confirm funding into 2029 and preserve KRSA-028’s 2027–28 milestones, but offer no clinical validation yet.

Korsana is a newly public, preclinical Alzheimer’s biotech using the Cyclerion merger and $380 million financing to move KRSA-028, its THETA-enabled amyloid-beta antibody, toward first-in-human testing. That financing, the 2029 runway target, and the 2027 clinical milestones were already disclosed when the merger was announced and completed, so this filing mostly confirms the existing story rather than rewriting it.

The balance sheet is sufficient for the planned development path. Cash and cash equivalents stood at $456.2 million at September 30, and management still expects funding into 2029. The balance is below the approximately $475 million cited immediately after closing, but that is consistent with early operating burn rather than a changed financing plan. 〔0〕

Q3 2026Q3 2025
Cash and equivalents (Balance Sheet)$456.2M
R&D expense (Financial Results)$42.1M$20.5M
G&A expense (Financial Results)$6.1M$1.5M
Net loss (Financial Results)$46.4M$21.7M
Shares outstanding (Financial Results)55.1M

The spending increase is the cost of building the company, not evidence of clinical progress. R&D expense more than doubled year over year to $42.1 million, while G&A rose to $6.1 million, as Korsana staffed up and advanced its lead program. The filing gives no clinical efficacy or human-safety result, so the higher loss buys preparation and runway—not proof that KRSA-028 works.

The milestone calendar is intact, but still entirely forward-looking. Phase 1 healthy-volunteer data remain targeted for mid-2027, with interim Alzheimer’s patient proof-of-concept data now framed for year-end 2027 or the first quarter of 2028. 〔1〕 The November 18 CTAD presentation is a preclinical poster covering pharmacokinetics, blood-related parameters, binding, and phagocytic activity—not the clinical readout that will determine whether the platform translates in people.

Bottom line: This is a funding-and-execution confirmation, not a new validation event. Korsana remains financed through its key 2027–28 milestones, but the central investment question—whether KRSA-028 works in humans—remains unanswered.
