Beat — Non-GAAP EPS $1.49 vs ~$1.36-$1.40 consensus
Shift4 earnings beat on Q3 EPS and cash flow, but softer macro conditions force another cut to full-year revenue and EBITDA guidance.
Shift4 is trying to build a global payments platform for hospitality, restaurants, sports, luxury retail and other “experience economy” merchants, with Global Blue adding international tax-free shopping and a broader geographic footprint. The market was already focused on whether organic growth could stabilize after a period of deceleration.
The quarter itself was broadly solid, but not enough to offset the outlook reset. Non-GAAP EPS of $1.49 appears ahead of the published ~$1.36-$1.40 range, while the company’s core payments-based GRLNF grew 18%; however, total GRLNF of $648 million was slightly below the roughly $653 million consensus estimate. The result is operationally healthy, but the market’s more important question was forward durability. 〔0〕
| Metric | Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gross revenue less network fees (Financial Highlights) | $648M (+10%) | $589M | ~$653M |
| Payments-based GRLNF (Performance Highlights) | $402M (+18%) | $340M | |
| Adjusted EBITDA (Performance Highlights) | $310M (+6%) | $293M | |
| Non-GAAP EPS (Performance Highlights) | $1.49 | $1.47 | ~$1.36-$1.40 |
| Adjusted free cash flow (Performance Highlights) | $200M (+42%) | $141M |
Cash generation was the strongest part of the release. Operating cash flow reached $221 million and adjusted free cash flow hit a quarterly record of $200 million, giving Shift4 room to keep funding product expansion, repurchases and tuck-in acquisitions despite the weaker earnings outlook.
The meaningful change is another full-year guide reduction. Shift4 lowered its 2026 GRLNF outlook to $2.45-$2.46 billion and adjusted EBITDA to $1.11-$1.13 billion, explicitly saying those figures are about 4% and 6% below the original guidance. Volume was also reduced to $240-$250 billion, while adjusted free cash flow was maintained at $465-$475 million. That combination says the business is still growing and converting cash, but near-term revenue quality, travel exposure and operating leverage are weaker than management previously expected.
The mix is improving even as the headline growth rate slows. Payments-based revenue is growing faster than total GRLNF, while subscription and other revenue declined 10% year over year. That supports the longer-term platform strategy, but it does not remove the immediate pressure from travel disruption, tax-free shopping and softer same-store sales. The Global Blue synergy target remains intact, with nearly $50 million expected by year-end versus a previously stated $70 million 2027 target, but execution must now carry more of the story.
Bottom line: Shift4 delivered a clean quarterly earnings beat and unusually strong cash flow, but the second guidance reduction makes the overall update slightly negative. The business is still advancing strategically; the near-term growth and profit trajectory is simply less predictable than it was before this filing.
