Beat — Revenue $42.8M vs ~$39.6M consensus
BlackSky earnings beat revenue expectations as Gen-3 drove record services growth, stronger margins, and a second 2026 guidance increase.
BlackSky is in the middle of shifting from a satellite operator into a higher-margin, recurring space-based intelligence and AI-services business, with Gen-3 adoption driving the transition. Earlier 2026 results had already established the direction: management cited accelerating Gen-3 demand and maintained a $130M–$150M revenue outlook with $12M–$24M of adjusted EBITDA.
The quarter materially exceeded the standing bar. Revenue reached $42.8M, up 118% year over year, versus a published consensus of roughly $39.6M—an approximate 8% beat. The important mix shift was toward space-based intelligence and AI services, which more than doubled to $32.7M.
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Total revenue (Financial Highlights) | $42.8M (+118%) | $19.6M | ~$39.6M |
| Space-based intelligence & AI services (Revenue) | $32.7M (+107%) | $15.8M | |
| Adjusted EBITDA (Adjusted EBITDA reconciliation) | $12.8M | $(4.5M) | |
| Cost of sales as % of revenue (Financial Highlights) | 21% | 35% | |
| Net cash used in operating activities (Cash Flow statement) | $(2.3M) | $(19.0M) |
The quality of growth improved, not just the volume. Cost of sales fell to 21% of revenue from 35%, allowing adjusted EBITDA to reach $12.8M, or a 29.9% margin, versus a $4.5M loss a year earlier. Operating expenses rose, but only modestly relative to revenue, suggesting the Gen-3 services mix is beginning to create operating leverage. 〔0〕
Management raised the ceiling again, confirming the quarter was more than a one-off beat. Full-year revenue guidance moved to $140M–$150M from $130M–$150M, while adjusted EBITDA guidance moved to $18M–$24M from $12M–$24M; capital-expenditure guidance stayed at $50M–$60M. This is the second increase of the year, and it strengthens the case that Gen-3 demand is translating into better in-year visibility rather than merely producing a strong quarter. 〔1〕
The headline net profit is less informative than the operating result. The $18.5M net income included a $19.7M derivative gain tied to warrant and other equity instruments, so it should not be treated as recurring operating earnings. Cash generation also remained slightly negative, and the company continued investing heavily in satellites and equipment; those are the main limitations beneath an otherwise clearly stronger operating quarter.
Bottom line: This was a genuine upgrade to BlackSky’s Gen-3 growth story: the company beat the revenue bar, converted growth into much better margins, and raised full-year targets again. The business is advancing meaningfully, although cash flow and derivative-driven net income remain less clean than the adjusted operating picture suggests.
