1 800 Flowers Com Inc (FLWS) · Nov 5, 2026 · Earnings
Miss — Revenue $171.4M vs ~$200.4M consensus; adjusted EPS -$0.78 vs ~-$0.58
1-800-Flowers earnings missed badly on revenue and EPS, while early improvement at its core websites was not enough to offset broader declines.
1-800-Flowers is in an early turnaround: management is simplifying the portfolio, selling non-core assets, and reinvesting in its flagship and Harry & David websites after a steep fiscal 2026 revenue decline. The prior outlook already framed fiscal 2027 as a transformation year focused on rebuilding demand rather than delivering an immediate rebound.
The quarter missed the market’s bar by a wide margin. Revenue fell 11.1% to $171.4 million, versus a published consensus near $200.4 million, while adjusted loss per share was $0.78 against an estimate around $0.58. The filing’s own comparison also shows the deterioration: continuing-operations revenue fell from $192.7 million to $171.4 million, and adjusted EBITDA remained deeply negative at $(31.9) million.
| Q1 FY27 | Q1 FY26 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue (Financial Highlights) | $171.4M (-11.1%) | $192.7M | ~$200.4M |
| Adjusted EPS (Adjusted net loss reconciliation) | $(0.78) | $(0.77) | ~$(0.58) |
| Continuing-operations net loss (Income Statement) | $(50.6)M | $(49.0)M | |
| Adjusted EBITDA (Adjusted EBITDA reconciliation) | $(31.9)M | $(31.7)M |
The targeted recovery is visible, but too small to carry the business yet. Net order demand at the primary brands declined 8.0% in the quarter, improving to a 3.4% decline in October; that is a better trend than the company’s other websites, where quarterly demand fell 36.0%. But primary-brand e-commerce revenue still dropped 12.3%, and its contribution margin fell 31.8% to $16.2 million. 〔0〕
Cost cutting helped, but did not offset the lost volume. Operating expenses fell $10.3 million year over year, mainly from lower marketing and labor costs, yet gross margin contracted 120 basis points and the operating loss widened modestly to $46.5 million. The result is a business spending less while still failing to generate operating leverage.
Liquidity remains a meaningful constraint on the turnaround. The company ended the quarter with only $9.4 million of cash, used $126.1 million in operating cash from continuing operations, and had $185.7 million of current debt maturities. The planned Jacksonville facility sale for approximately $10 million is helpful but small relative to the financing burden, so it supports the turnaround only marginally.
Bottom line: The filing shows an early improvement in the core websites, but the actual quarter was far worse than expected and the company remains cash-constrained. The turnaround story is still intact in direction, but this report materially weakens confidence in its pace and execution.
