Beat — Diluted EPS $0.24 vs ~$0.17 consensus
PENN’s Q3 earnings beat EPS expectations as retail casinos delivered record revenue and Interactive losses narrowed, keeping the turnaround on track.
PENN is in the middle of a two-part turnaround: its established retail casino portfolio is funding a push to make its online Interactive business profitable, while management is also using stronger cash generation to reduce leverage. The prior quarter had already established that retail growth, U.S. iCasino and Canada were the main execution priorities, so this filing is more confirmation than a new strategic pivot.
The quarter beat on earnings, but not on sales. Diluted EPS came in at $0.24 versus published consensus of roughly $0.17, while revenue of $1.84 billion was essentially in line with the $1.84 billion expectation. The earnings upside came with a cleaner operating backdrop: Consolidated Adjusted EBITDA rose 46% year over year to $284.0 million, and the company returned to GAAP profitability after last year’s large impairment charge. 〔0〕
| Metric | Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus / prior period |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue (Financial Highlights) | $1,840.0M (+7.1%) | $1,717.3M | ~$1,840.0M consensus |
| Diluted EPS (Financial Highlights) | $0.24 | $(6.03) | ~$0.17 consensus |
| Adjusted EPS (Adjusted EPS reconciliation) | $0.32 | $(0.22) | — |
| Consolidated Adjusted EBITDA (Segment results) | $284.0M (+45.7%) | $194.9M | — |
| Interactive Adjusted EBITDAR (Segment results) | $(18.3)M | $(76.6)M | — |
| Traditional net leverage (Leverage table) | 2.3x | 4.5x | — |
Retail is doing the heavy lifting. Retail revenue reached a record third-quarter level, with the Northeast, Midwest and West segments growing year over year; the Midwest was especially strong at $341.9 million of revenue versus $298.3 million. Retail profitability also improved across most segments, supporting the company’s claim that completed development projects are beginning to contribute. 〔1〕
Interactive is improving materially, but it has not crossed the finish line. Interactive revenue increased to $348.4 million from $297.7 million, while its Adjusted EBITDAR loss narrowed to $18.3 million from $76.6 million. That is meaningful progress toward profitability, but the segment remains a drag rather than a contributor to consolidated earnings. The filing points to standalone Hollywood iCasino, Ontario and the early Alberta launch as the main growth engines. 〔2〕
The balance sheet gives the turnaround more room to work. Traditional net debt fell to $1.76 billion from $2.22 billion at year-end, while traditional net leverage declined to 2.3x from 4.5x. Lease-adjusted leverage remains much higher at 5.6x, so deleveraging is a genuine improvement but does not eliminate PENN’s heavy fixed-cost burden.
The upside is execution, not a new change in strategy. Management says healthy trends continued through October and remains confident in the full-year Interactive EBITDA target, but the filing provides no new numeric target or evidence that Interactive is already sustainably profitable. 〔3〕
Bottom line: This is a modest earnings beat that strengthens PENN’s turnaround story: retail is outperforming and Interactive losses are shrinking, but the online business still needs another step to become a true profit driver.
