Beat — Adj. EPS $4.15 vs ~$4.07 consensus; revenue $5.274B vs ~$5.11B
BD’s earnings beat consensus in Q4, while its first FY2027 guidance points to steady—not accelerating—growth after the Life Sciences spin-off.
BD enters this report as a newly focused MedTech company following the February 9, 2026 separation of its Life Sciences business, with management trying to prove that the remaining portfolio can produce durable growth and cash flow. The prior setup already pointed to low-single-digit revenue growth and roughly $13.25 of FY2027 adjusted EPS consensus, so the key question was execution—not whether BD would suddenly reaccelerate.
The quarter beat the market’s operating hurdle. Fourth-quarter revenue reached $5.274 billion, ahead of the published consensus near $5.11 billion, while adjusted EPS was $4.15 versus approximately $4.07 expected. The beat was broad rather than dependent on one segment: Medical Essentials grew 5.9%, BioPharma Systems 6.5%, and Interventional 7.6% on a reported basis, although Connected Care was much softer at 1.6%. | Metric | Current | Comparison | Consensus / guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Q4 revenue (Financial Highlights) | $5.274B | $5.005B | ~$5.11B |
| Q4 adjusted diluted EPS (Financial Highlights) | $4.15 | $3.26 | ~$4.07 |
| FY2026 adjusted diluted EPS (EPS reconciliation) | $12.70 | $11.90 | $12.62–$12.72 prior guide |
| FY2026 free cash flow (Cash Flow reconciliation) | $2.933B | $2.058B | |
| FY2027 adjusted diluted EPS (Guidance table) | $13.10–$13.30 | $12.70 | ~$13.25 |
| FY2027 revenue growth (Guidance table) | Low single-digit | 4.9% FY2026 | Low single-digit |
The full-year quality improved, but the new outlook is not an acceleration signal. Continuing-operations adjusted EPS rose to $12.70, and free cash flow increased 42.5% to $2.933 billion, helped by stronger operating cash generation. But FY2027 guidance of $13.10–$13.30 centers around $13.20, essentially in line with the roughly $13.25 consensus, while revenue is again guided only to low-single-digit growth. That keeps the post-spin-off story intact rather than upgrading it.
The restructuring bill shows the transformation is still costing money. BD recorded $642 million of full-year restructuring costs, including $450 million of non-cash asset impairments tied to exiting activities that no longer fit its strategy. The improved adjusted results and cash flow matter more than the accounting charge for this quarter, but the charge confirms that the “focused MedTech” model is still being reshaped rather than fully proven.
Bottom line: BD delivered a clean quarterly beat and stronger cash generation, but its first FY2027 outlook is broadly what the market already expected. This advances execution modestly; it does not yet rewrite the company’s growth story.
