Targa earnings beat as EBITDA guide rises above $6 billion

Beat — Revenue $5.60B vs ~$4.77B consensus; 2026 EBITDA guide at least $6.0B vs prior $5.7B-$5.9B

Targa’s third-quarter earnings beat published expectations and lifted 2026 EBITDA guidance above $6 billion, while heavy growth spending constrained free cash flow.

Targa is in the middle of a large Permian infrastructure buildout: its ExxonMobil agreements, new processing plants, fractionation capacity and pipelines are designed to capture rising gas and NGL volumes across an integrated system. The August commercial agreements already established the longer-term growth direction, including 20-year fee-based commitments and roughly $5 billion of 2026 growth capital.

The quarter beat the published bar, although the cleanest evidence is revenue rather than EPS. Third-quarter revenue was $5.60 billion, versus a published consensus near $4.77 billion, while net income attributable to Targa rose 38% year over year to $658.2 million and adjusted EBITDA increased 18% to $1.50 billion. The operating engine is doing what the expansion thesis requires: Permian inlet volumes, NGL transportation and fractionation volumes all reached records. 〔0〕

The more important change is that management moved the full-year EBITDA floor above its prior range. After Q2, Targa was targeting the top end of a $5.7 billion-$5.9 billion range; it now expects at least $6.0 billion. That is a genuine improvement to the near-term operating outlook, not merely a restatement of the existing plan.

Execution is ahead of schedule, but the buildout remains cash-intensive. Train 12 and the Bull Run Extension started ahead of schedule, Copperhead is in start-up, and Yeti and Yeti II were pulled forward to the second and third quarters of 2027. At the same time, third-quarter growth capital spending reached $1.19 billion and adjusted free cash flow fell to just $33.6 million, despite higher EBITDA. The business is generating more operating cash, but most of it is being reinvested into the expansion story. 〔1〕

The dividend announcement is supportive but does not change the main capital-allocation tension. Management intends to recommend a 20% increase in the 2027 annual dividend to $6.00 per share, following a 25% increase in the current quarterly dividend. That signals confidence in future cash generation, but the filing also shows $19.8 billion of debt and $5.0 billion of 2026 growth capital spending, so the higher payout is arriving alongside continued heavy investment rather than after the buildout has finished.

Bottom line: Targa delivered a better-than-expected quarter and raised its near-term EBITDA outlook, reinforcing the Permian growth story. The result is meaningfully positive, but the benefit is tempered by very heavy capital spending and sharply lower free cash flow.
