Beat — Adjusted EPS $1.21 vs ~$1.15 consensus; revenue $227.0M vs ~$221.9M
Ducommun’s Q3 earnings beat consensus on revenue and adjusted EPS, while defense timing and weaker Structural Systems margins temper the headline.
Ducommun is executing a commercial-aerospace recovery and defense-growth strategy, with its recently unveiled VISION 2032 plan targeting $1.6–$1.7 billion of revenue and a 23% Adjusted EBITDA margin by 2032. The near-term setup was already constructive: management had said 2026 revenue should reach roughly $880–$890 million, supported by commercial aerospace production and missile and radar demand.
The quarter cleared the published bar, but not by enough to rewrite the story. Revenue of $227.0 million beat the roughly $221.9 million consensus, while adjusted diluted EPS of $1.21 exceeded the roughly $1.15 expectation. That is a genuine earnings beat, but the scale is modest rather than transformational.
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue (Financial Highlights) | $227.0M (+5.9%) | $214.4M | $221.9M |
| Adjusted diluted EPS (GAAP Earnings To Non-GAAP EPS) | $1.21 | $1.22 | $1.15 |
| Gross margin (Income Statement) | 28.9% (+140 bps) | 27.5% | — |
| Adjusted EBITDA margin (Adjusted EBITDA) | 17.5% (+10 bps) | 17.4% | — |
| Defense bookings / book-to-bill (Bookings) | $263.5M / 2.2x | $195.2M / 1.5x | — |
Commercial aerospace supplied the growth investors were looking for. Company revenue rose 5.9%, driven by $21.1 million of incremental commercial-aerospace revenue, while military and space revenue fell $9.2 million because of program timing. Management said Boeing 737 MAX and Airbus A320 activity pushed commercial aerospace revenue up 28% year over year and near a $100 million quarterly run rate.
The quality of the growth is uneven across segments. Electronic Systems delivered the stronger operational result: revenue rose 3.5%, while operating margin expanded to 22.2% from 18.6%. Structural Systems grew revenue 9.3%, but its operating margin fell to 12.3% from 13.7% as product mix offset volume and pricing benefits. That split matters because the consolidated adjusted EPS beat was helped by volume and mix in electronics, not broad-based margin expansion.
Defense demand remains the most important forward support, despite the quarter’s timing drag. Military-and-space bookings reached $263.5 million, producing a 2.2x book-to-bill versus 1.5x a year earlier, and total remaining performance obligations rose to $1.29 billion from $1.11 billion at year-end. The filing therefore supports management’s claim that delayed defense revenue is more timing-related than demand-related, although bookings still must convert into production.
The headline GAAP recovery overstates the underlying improvement. GAAP EPS swung to $0.89 from a $4.06 loss largely because the prior-year quarter contained a $99.7 million litigation settlement. On the cleaner adjusted measure, EPS was $1.21 versus $1.22 a year ago, and adjusted operating margin declined to 12.3% from 12.7%. The real improvement is revenue growth, gross-margin expansion and stronger defense bookings—not a major acceleration in normalized per-share earnings.
Bottom line: Ducommun beat a modest quarterly expectation and added evidence that commercial aerospace and defense demand are progressing. The result strengthens the existing growth story, but the uneven segment margins and flat adjusted EPS keep it a measured beat rather than a change in the company’s overall trajectory.
