Beat — Diluted EPS $0.08 vs ~$0.06 consensus; revenue $74.1M vs ~$71.56M
Precigen’s third-quarter earnings beat consensus as PAPZIMEOS revenue surged 37% sequentially, pushing the company to positive cash flow ahead of schedule.
Precigen is transitioning from a development-stage biotech into a commercial company built around PAPZIMEOS, its first approved product for recurrent respiratory papillomatosis. The prior quarter had already established profitability and rapidly accelerating sales, with management expecting cash-flow break-even by year-end; the new information is the pace of the ramp and how early cash generation arrived.
PAPZIMEOS execution beat the standing bar. Product revenue reached $72.9 million, up 37% from $53.1 million in the second quarter, while total revenue of $74.1 million exceeded the published consensus of roughly $71.56 million. The filing says PAPZIMEOS revenue grew 37% quarter-over-quarter to $72.9 million.
| Q3 2026 | Q2 2026 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| PAPZIMEOS product revenue (Financial Results) | $72.9M (+37%) | $53.1M | |
| Total revenue (Income Statement) | $74.1M | $55.0M | $71.56M |
| Diluted EPS (Income Statement) | $0.08 | $0.03 | $0.06 |
| Operating cash flow (CFO commentary) | $11.9M |
The bigger improvement is cash generation, not merely reported profit. Precigen had previously targeted positive cash flow by the end of 2026, but this quarter produced $11.9 million of cash from operations, a full quarter ahead of that target. 〔0〕 That meaningfully strengthens the commercial-launch story because the product is now funding operations sooner than the company had planned, reducing the immediate pressure for additional financing.
Reported earnings are cleaner than last year but still need to be read through the accounting noise. The $35.8 million profit reflects a $111.5 million prior-year warrant-liability charge and a $179.0 million prior-year preferred-stock deemed dividend disappearing from the comparison; however, the current quarter also shows $38.7 million of operating income and positive operating cash flow, so the improvement is not only a reversal of last year’s unusual items.
The commercial foundation is advancing, while the broader pipeline remains the next proof point. The filing highlights more than 500 patients starting treatment, more than 300 completing treatment, and ongoing redosing, pediatric, geographic-expansion, and AdenoVerse programs. Those adoption figures support the current PAPZIMEOS ramp, but they do not yet establish that the platform will produce a second meaningful commercial product; management previously pointed to a year-end update on PRGN-2009 and the wider AdenoVerse portfolio.
Bottom line: This was more than a routine profitable quarter: PAPZIMEOS revenue beat expectations and cash flow arrived earlier than promised. It materially strengthens Precigen’s commercial-transition story, although the next major question is whether the AdenoVerse pipeline can extend growth beyond one product.
AdenoVerse portfolio update, including PRGN-2009, by year-end
