Beat — Adjusted diluted EPS $0.64 vs $0.51 consensus; revenue $54.4M vs $49M
SandRidge Energy’s Q3 earnings beat consensus on stronger production and revenue, while Cherokee investment and acquisition spending reduced cash.
SandRidge is a debt-free Mid-Continent producer using a one-rig Cherokee development program and bolt-on acquisitions to grow production and extend its drilling inventory. The prior plan already called for Cherokee development and possible acquisitions, so this quarter mainly tests execution rather than introducing a new strategy. The published Q3 consensus was approximately $0.51 of EPS and $49 million of revenue.
The quarter clearly beat the earnings bar. Adjusted diluted EPS reached $0.64 versus roughly $0.51 expected, while revenue was $54.4 million versus approximately $49 million consensus. The beat was supported by both volume and pricing: production rose 10% year over year and revenue increased 37%. The tax benefit and derivative losses make GAAP net income less clean, but the adjusted figures still show materially better operating performance.
| Metric | 3Q26 | 3Q25 | Consensus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adjusted diluted EPS (Adjusted net income) | $0.64 | $0.42 | $0.51 |
| Revenue (Income Statement) | $54.4M | $39.8M | $49.0M |
| Production (Production, Revenue & Realized Prices) | 20.9 MBoed | 19.0 MBoed | |
| Adjusted EBITDA (Financial Highlights) | $39.3M | $27.3M |
The underlying growth is becoming visible in the operating base. Oil production rose 8%, total production increased to 20.9 MBoed, and the Cherokee acquisition added roughly 7,000 net leasehold acres, interests in 21 wells, and eight proven development locations. Because that acquisition was announced beforehand, the closing itself is partly known; the new information is that production and earnings are already benefiting from the combined development program.
The trade-off is heavier capital deployment, not balance-sheet stress. Nine-month capital spending and asset acquisitions consumed more cash than in 2025, leaving $70.0 million of cash and $32.6 million of free cash flow, but SandRidge still had no term or revolving debt. Free cash flow fell sequentially as acquisition and development spending ramped, so the next proof point is whether the added Cherokee inventory converts into sustained production and cash generation rather than just a larger asset base.
Bottom line: This is a genuine earnings beat backed by stronger production and revenue, not just a tax-driven GAAP result. The acquisition and drilling strategy is working so far, although the story now depends on turning higher investment into durable free cash flow without taking on debt.
