STERIS earnings beat as tariff refunds lift EPS outlook

Beat — Adjusted EPS $2.94 vs ~$2.68 consensus

STERIS earnings beat Q2 revenue and adjusted EPS expectations, while FY2027 EPS guidance rose with tariff refunds cushioning the upgrade.

STERIS is expanding its recurring healthcare and life-sciences sterilization business while consolidating facilities and managing tariff and productivity pressure. Against the prior fiscal 2027 framework of 7–8% reported growth, 6–7% constant-currency organic growth, and $11.10–$11.30 adjusted EPS, the quarter came in materially better than expected.

The quarter clearly beat the market bar. Adjusted diluted EPS was $2.94 versus a published consensus of approximately $2.68, while revenue reached $1.589 billion versus roughly $1.56 billion expected. Revenue grew 9% reported and 8.1% on a constant-currency organic basis, with particularly strong Life Sciences growth.

Adjusted diluted EPS (Non-GAAP reconciliation)$2.94 (+19.0%)$2.47~$2.68
Life Sciences revenue (Segment results)$170.6M (+17.7%)$145.0M
FY2027 adjusted EPS outlook (FY2027 Outlook)$11.35–$11.55$11.10–$11.30 prior

The guidance raise is real, but not entirely organic. STERIS lifted the full-year adjusted EPS range by $0.25 at both ends, while leaving revenue-growth guidance unchanged at 7–8% reported and 6–7% constant-currency organic. The company says the revised outlook includes approximately $0.18 per share from tariff refunds, so the underlying operating upgrade is smaller than the headline increase.

Life Sciences is the strongest operating surprise. Its revenue rose 18% organically and operating income increased to $75.8 million from $59.9 million, helped by pricing, productivity, volume, and mix. Healthcare remained healthy at 7% organic growth, while AST grew 5% but saw capital-equipment revenue fall 21%, leaving the portfolio’s growth engine concentrated more heavily in Life Sciences and recurring Healthcare activity.

The cost story is more complicated than the headline beat. STERIS approved another targeted restructuring plan, mainly in Healthcare, carrying approximately $45 million of charges for roughly $9 million in annualized savings. That supports longer-term efficiency, but the savings are back-loaded, with a portion expected in fiscal 2028 and the full benefit later. 〔0〕 Cash generation also weakened year over year, with six-month free cash flow down to $492.5 million despite higher earnings, reflecting working-capital pressure and ongoing investment.

Bottom line: This is a genuine earnings beat with a raised EPS outlook and strong Life Sciences execution, so it advances STERIS’s growth story. The upgrade is less powerful than it first appears because tariff refunds supplied part of the lift, while cash flow and restructuring execution remain offsets.
