Phibro earnings beat revenue estimates as Animal Health margins slipped

In line — Adjusted EPS $0.79 vs ~$0.78-$0.79 consensus

Phibro’s first-quarter earnings were broadly in line, with revenue ahead of estimates as Mineral Nutrition and Performance Products offset softer Animal Health results.

Phibro is in the early phase of integrating the Zoetis medicated-feed-additive portfolio while trying to shift growth toward Mineral Nutrition and Performance Products; its core Animal Health business is dealing with Brazil’s virginiamycin restrictions and a planned Chicago Heights plant closure. The quarter supports that transition, but it does not remove the execution issues.

Revenue was better than the market expected, but the earnings result itself was not a surprise. First-quarter sales reached $386.8 million, ahead of the roughly $382 million published consensus and up 6% year over year, while adjusted diluted EPS of $0.79 essentially matched the $0.78-$0.79 consensus range. The cleanest positive is therefore top-line execution, not a meaningful earnings beat.

FigureQ1 2026Q1 2025Consensus
Net sales (Quarterly Results)$386.8M (+6%)$363.9M~$382.4M
Adjusted diluted EPS (Adjusted Net Income)$0.79 (+8%)$0.73~$0.78-$0.79
Adjusted EBITDA (Segment Results)$64.3M (+4%)$61.9M
Operating income (Consolidated Results)$49.6M (-3%)$51.3M
SG&A (Consolidated Results)$78.9M (+15%)$68.5M

The growth mix was encouraging, but it came from the smaller businesses rather than the core franchise. Mineral Nutrition sales rose 17% and Performance Products sales rose 16%, while their adjusted EBITDA increased 36% and 75%, respectively. That is evidence the acquired and adjacent businesses are contributing operating growth, not just revenue. The filing says, “Mineral Nutrition net sales of $73.6 million... increased $10.6 million, or 17%,” and “Performance Products net sales of $20.2 million... increased $2.7 million, or 16%.”

Animal Health remains the constraint. Sales grew only 3%, while segment adjusted EBITDA fell 1% as higher selling costs offset the benefit of higher gross profit. Within the segment, the $5.2 million decline in Brazilian virginiamycin sales was partly offset by stronger MFA demand, but nutritional specialties and vaccines both declined. The filing states, “Animal Health Adjusted EBITDA decreased $1.0million due to higher SG&A offsetting higher gross profit from increased sales.”

The reported net-income growth was helped by below-the-line items, while underlying cost pressure remains visible. GAAP net income rose 11%, but operating income fell 3% because SG&A grew 15%; lower interest expense, favorable foreign-currency movements and a lower tax rate more than offset that operating decline. Adjusted gross margin held at 34.0%, so the quarter did not show a clear improvement in underlying profitability. The filing says, “Operating income decreased $1.6million primarily due to higher SG&A partially offset by higher gross profit.”

Maintained guidance is reassuring but not new information. Fiscal 2027 sales, adjusted EBITDA and adjusted net-income ranges were unchanged from the August outlook, which already assumed no additional Brazilian virginiamycin sales. Any regulatory approval would still be upside, but the company has not converted that possibility into the base case. The filing explicitly says, “Our fiscal year 2027 financial guidance is as shown below, with our guidance maintained from the previous quarter.” 〔0〕

Bottom line: This was a modestly better-than-expected revenue quarter, powered by the newer growth businesses, but adjusted earnings merely met expectations and the core Animal Health segment weakened. The event modestly advances the transition story without changing it fundamentally.
