Miss — Q4 revenue $70.0M vs ~$72.2M consensus
Franklin Covey earnings show an EPS beat but a revenue miss, while rising deferred revenue supports a measured FY2027 recovery.
Franklin Covey is midway through a North America go-to-market overhaul: fiscal 2025 was a transition year, and management had expected stronger invoicing to convert into reported revenue during fiscal 2026 and beyond. The company entered this release with fiscal 2026 revenue guidance already reduced to $260–267 million, while the strategic case rested on improving Enterprise North America bookings and deferred revenue.
The quarter missed the top-line bar even as profitability beat. Q4 revenue fell to $70.0 million from $71.2 million and trailed published consensus of roughly $72.2 million, while diluted EPS of $0.62 exceeded the roughly $0.59 consensus. That makes this a revenue-led miss rather than a clean earnings failure: cost control and a lower tax provision helped earnings, but demand has not yet translated into reported sales.
| Q4 FY2026 | Q4 FY2025 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue (Income Statement) | $70.0M | $71.2M | ~$72.2M |
| Diluted EPS (Income Statement) | $0.62 | $0.34 | ~$0.59 |
| Adjusted EBITDA (Income Statement) | $12.8M | $11.7M | |
| FY2026 revenue (Income Statement) | $261.5M | $267.1M | ~$263.7M |
| FY2026 Adjusted EBITDA (Income Statement) | $28.9M | $28.8M |
The underlying order picture is better than the reported revenue line. Enterprise North America invoiced amounts rose 4% for the year to $151.4 million, while Enterprise deferred revenue increased 17% to $59.2 million. That supports the company’s claim that the sales model is gaining traction, but it is still a conversion story: stronger commitments must turn into recognized revenue before the turnaround is fully proven.
FY2027 guidance points to recovery, not acceleration. Revenue guidance of $263–273 million implies only 0.6%–4.4% reported growth, or 1.4%–5.2% excluding the planned $2 million China accounting shift. Adjusted EBITDA guidance of $29–34 million is more encouraging, implying 0.4%–17.7% growth and margin expansion from 11.0% to as much as 12.5%. However, the midpoint revenue guide of $268 million is below the roughly $275 million published next-year estimate, so the outlook does not fully validate the more bullish recovery case.
Cash generation and liquidity are the quieter concern. Fiscal-year operating cash flow fell to $21.6 million from $29.0 million and free cash flow declined to $9.2 million from $12.1 million, while cash fell to $13.3 million after $28.1 million of share repurchases. The fully available $62.5 million credit facility provides room, but the cash conversion picture was weaker than the headline earnings improvement.
Bottom line: Franklin Covey is showing better contracted demand and operating discipline, but reported revenue still missed and FY2027 guidance is cautious. The turnaround is progressing, yet this filing advances the story only modestly rather than proving it decisively.
