Miss — Revenue $109.0M vs ~$119.1M consensus; GAAP EPS $(0.09) vs ~$(0.12) consensus
Redwire earnings showed a revenue miss despite record margins, a 75% backlog increase, and reaffirmed 2026 guidance.
Redwire is integrating its space-infrastructure business with the acquired Edge Autonomy defense platform, aiming to become a broader space-and-defense technology supplier spanning spacecraft, autonomous systems, sensors, and multi-domain platforms. The quarter missed the revenue bar, even as underlying demand indicators improved. Revenue of $109.0 million was below the published consensus of roughly $119.1 million, although it still grew 5.4% year over year. GAAP EPS of $(0.09) was better than the roughly $(0.12) consensus, but the revenue shortfall matters more for a company whose central execution test is converting its expanding order book into reported sales.
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue (Income Statement) | $109.0M (+5.4%) | $103.4M | $119.1M |
| GAAP diluted EPS (Income Statement) | $(0.09) | $(0.29) | $(0.12) |
| Adjusted gross margin (Adjusted Gross Profit) | 32.3% | 27.1% | |
| Adjusted EBITDA (Adjusted EBITDA reconciliation) | $(5.3)M | $(2.6)M | |
| Contracted backlog (Backlog table) | $619.7M (+50.7%) | $411.2M | |
| Free cash flow (Free Cash Flow) | $(66.4)M | $(27.8)M |
Backlog and margin quality are the strongest part of the release. Contracted backlog reached $619.7 million, up from $411.2 million at year-end, while quarterly book-to-bill rose to 1.73 from 1.25 and the company booked $188.7 million of contracts. Those are firm demand signals, not merely pipeline commentary. The filing says, “Redwire continued to see durable demand across our space and defense tech portfolio during the third quarter as evidenced by our record Backlog1 of $619.7million, a nearly 75% increase year-over-year, and Book-to-Bill1 increasing to 1.73.”
Margins improved sharply, but profitability and cash conversion remain unresolved. Adjusted gross margin expanded to 32.3% from 27.1%, and nine-month segment adjusted EBITDA turned positive at $24.2 million versus $0.4 million a year earlier. But quarterly adjusted EBITDA deteriorated to a $5.3 million loss as corporate charges and higher investment absorbed the gross-profit improvement. Operating cash flow was negative $63.6 million in the quarter, while free cash flow worsened to negative $66.4 million. The filing explicitly says, “Adjusted EBITDA2 decreased by $2.7million year-over-year to $(5.3) million for the third quarter of 2026.”
The guidance reaffirmation keeps the growth story intact, but raises the execution burden for Q4. Redwire reaffirmed its 2026 revenue forecast after nine-month revenue of $323.1 million. Against the previously reported $450 million–$500 million range, that leaves roughly $126.9 million to $176.9 million of fourth-quarter revenue required, meaning the midpoint still requires about $151.9 million in Q4. The company attributes the gap partly to uneven revenue timing rather than weaker demand: “With $323.1million of recorded revenue during the first nine months of 2026 supported by a record $619.7million in Backlog4 and $46.8million of work in process and finished goods inventory, we again reaffirm our 2026 revenue forecast.”
The balance sheet is better funded, but largely because of equity issuance rather than cash generation. Cash, cash equivalents, and restricted cash rose to $488.9 million, while long-term debt fell to $42.5 million from $80.0 million. However, common shares outstanding increased to 250.2 million from 191.9 million at year-end, and the company raised $566.7 million through common-stock issuance during the first nine months. That gives Redwire more room to execute its backlog, but with meaningful dilution and continued operating cash burn.
Bottom line: This was a mixed quarter: the demand and margin trajectory advanced, but revenue conversion missed the market’s bar and cash profitability remains weak. The filing supports Redwire’s longer-term growth story without proving that execution has fully caught up with its backlog.
