Miss — Non-GAAP EPS $(0.06) vs approximately $(0.04) consensus
3D Systems’ Q3 earnings beat revenue expectations and turned adjusted EBITDA positive, but adjusted EPS missed and litigation costs widened the GAAP loss.
3D Systems is trying to rebuild growth around four higher-value markets—MedTech, Dental, Aerospace & Defense, and Data Center Infrastructure—after a prolonged additive-manufacturing downturn and software divestitures. Its prior Q3 framework called for $96–99 million of revenue and adjusted EBITDA between negative $3 million and negative $1 million.
Revenue landed ahead of the bar, with the strongest progress in Healthcare. Q3 revenue was $99.3 million, above the published consensus of approximately $97.3 million and slightly above the company’s prior outlook range. Healthcare grew 14.4% to $49.0 million, while Industrial grew only 3.9% to $50.3 million; the latter was 7.7% excluding divested software.
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus / prior outlook | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue (Financial Highlights) | $99.3M (+8.8%) | $91.2M | ~$97.3M consensus |
| Non-GAAP diluted EPS (Financial Highlights) | $(0.06) | $(0.08) | ~$(0.04) consensus |
| Adjusted EBITDA (Financial Highlights) | $3.1M | $(10.0)M | $(3)M–$(1)M outlook |
| Gross margin (Financial Highlights) | 35.0% | 32.3% | |
| Healthcare revenue (Segment results) | $49.0M (+14.4%) | $42.8M | |
| Industrial revenue (Segment results) | $50.3M (+3.9%) | $48.5M |
The operating turnaround is more credible, but not yet a clean earnings win. Adjusted EBITDA reached $3.1 million versus a $10.0 million loss last year and exceeded the prior outlook, helped by cost reductions, higher volumes, and operating leverage. Gross margin also expanded to 35.0% from 32.3%.
The headline loss worsened because the improvement is being offset below operating profit. GAAP net loss widened to $33.5 million from $18.1 million, with litigation expense, an impairment charge, unfavorable foreign exchange, and taxes weighing on results. That is why the quarter beats on revenue and underlying EBITDA but misses the adjusted EPS benchmark.
The balance sheet remains adequate for the near-term transition, but cash generation is still weak. The company held $120.5 million of cash and investments at September 30, while operating cash flow was negative $17.5 million for the first nine months and $3.9 million of debt is due in the fourth quarter. The $53.8 million equity offering also helped fund liquidity, but increased the share count materially.
Bottom line: This is a modest step forward operationally: revenue beat expectations and adjusted EBITDA crossed into positive territory, but the adjusted EPS miss and larger GAAP loss keep it from being a clean earnings beat. The company’s recovery story is strengthening, not yet proven end to end.
