TrueBlue, Inc. (TBI) · Nov 4, 2026 · Earnings
Beat — Adj. EPS $0.33 vs ~$0.19-$0.21 consensus; revenue $521M vs ~$468M
TrueBlue’s Q3 earnings beat revenue and EPS expectations as skilled staffing drove growth, stronger margins, and a return to GAAP profitability.
TrueBlue is rebuilding growth around skilled staffing, energy work, commercial driving, digital delivery, and tighter operating costs rather than relying solely on its traditional staffing base. Its prior strategy already pointed toward higher-value skilled markets and efficiency gains, so the direction was known; this quarter provides unusually strong evidence that the plan is working.
The quarter clearly beat the market’s operating bar. Published estimates were roughly $0.19-$0.21 of EPS and about $468 million of revenue; TrueBlue delivered $0.33 of adjusted diluted EPS and $520.7 million of revenue. The filing itself says, “Third quarter revenue was $521million, a 21 percent increase compared to the prior year period.”
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus / comparison | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue (Financial summary) | $520.7M (+20.8%) | $431.3M | ~$468M |
| Adj. diluted EPS (Financial summary) | $0.33 | $0.03 | ~$0.19-$0.21 |
| GAAP diluted EPS (Income Statement) | $0.28 | $(0.06) | — |
| Adjusted EBITDA (Financial summary) | $20.7M (+95%) | $10.6M | — |
| Adjusted EBITDA margin (Financial summary) | 4.0% (+150 bps) | 2.5% | — |
The quality of the beat was operational, not just accounting-driven. Revenue growth was concentrated in PeopleReady, up 34%, while PeopleManagement and PeopleSolutions returned to slower growth; segment profit rose across all three businesses, with PeopleReady profit up 148%. The filing attributes this to energy demand, core on-demand growth, commercial driving, and stabilization in PeopleSolutions. 〔0〕
Cost discipline converted the revenue rebound into much better earnings. SG&A fell to $89.1 million despite the 21% revenue increase, while adjusted EBITDA nearly doubled. That is important because TrueBlue’s standing story depends on achieving leverage from a smaller fixed-cost base; Q3 shows that leverage beginning to appear, although gross margin fell to 20.5% from 22.7% as the business mix shifted toward lower-margin staffing volume. 〔1〕
The outlook supports continued momentum but preserves the margin tradeoff. Q4 revenue guidance of $499 million-$519 million implies 20%-24% growth, with improved trends across all three segments and continued strength in skilled businesses. However, gross margin is expected at 19.8%-20.2%, still below the prior-year level because of mix. This is a strong growth signal, not a clean all-clear on profitability.
The balance sheet remains a constraint to watch, not the headline. TrueBlue ended the quarter with $20 million of cash, $102 million of debt, and $66 million of unused borrowing capacity, while year-to-date operating cash flow remained negative at $56.4 million. The liquidity cushion is usable, but the growth rebound is consuming working capital and debt increased from $65.8 million at fiscal year-end.
Bottom line: This was a meaningful execution beat that strengthens TrueBlue’s recovery story: skilled-market growth is now producing both revenue acceleration and operating leverage. The main caveat is that mix-driven margin pressure and working-capital needs mean the improvement still has to translate into durable cash generation.
