Beat — Adjusted EPS $1.83 vs ~$1.34 consensus
Tutor Perini earnings beat expectations, with record revenue and cash flow driving a sharp increase in 2026 adjusted EPS guidance.
Tutor Perini is executing a multi-year recovery and growth story: after a sharp improvement in 2025, it is converting a roughly $20 billion backlog into higher-margin revenue and cash flow, supported by heavy infrastructure demand and a bid pipeline exceeding $200 billion. Its second-quarter report had already raised 2026 adjusted EPS guidance to $5.15–$5.45, so the direction of travel was known; this filing shows the acceleration is exceeding that already-improving setup.
The quarter beat the market’s operating bar, not just last year. Adjusted EPS was $1.83 versus a published consensus of roughly $1.34, while revenue reached $1.72 billion versus expectations around $1.6 billion. That is a meaningful beat on both profitability and volume, with the reported construction-operations margin rising to about 7.3% from 2.8% a year earlier.
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue (Income Statement) | $1,720.3M (+21.5%) | $1,415.4M | ~$1,600M |
| Adjusted diluted EPS (EPS Information) | $1.83 (+59.1%) | $1.15 | ~$1.34 |
| Income from construction operations (Income Statement) | $125.4M (+212.8%) | $40.1M | |
| Operating cash flow, nine months (Cash Flow statement) | $665.1M (+15.8%) | $574.4M | |
| 2026 adjusted EPS guidance (Raising 2026 Guidance) | $5.90–$6.10 | $5.15–$5.45 prior | ~$5.38 |
The quality of the improvement is better than the headline GAAP EPS suggests. GAAP EPS was only $0.39 because the quarter included a $51.4 million debt-extinguishment loss and a $33.8 million pension settlement charge. Those are real charges, but they are nonrecurring; excluding them and share-based compensation, adjusted net income rose to $97.6 million from $61.9 million. The underlying construction operations therefore improved sharply even after stripping out the accounting noise.
The guidance raise is the most important new information. Management lifted the full-year adjusted EPS range by $0.75 at the midpoint, to $6.00 from $5.30, which moves the company above the roughly $5.38 published full-year consensus. That is not merely a confirmation of momentum: it says the stronger project execution and margin contribution are now expected to persist through year-end.
Cash conversion and backlog also reinforce the earnings beat. Nine-month operating cash flow reached $665.1 million, while third-quarter awards of $2.2 billion exceeded the $1.7 billion of revenue recognized, producing a second consecutive quarter of book-to-burn above 1.0x. Backlog was therefore maintained near record levels at $20.4 billion, and the company says costs and estimated earnings in excess of billings fell to $767.4 million, its lowest level since the end of 2014—evidence that disputed-project working capital is continuing to unwind.
Bottom line: This is a clear execution beat that advances Tutor Perini’s turnaround from “improving” to “better than previously forecast.” The higher guidance, stronger cash generation and sustained backlog support make this materially more important than a routine strong quarter.
