Beat — Non-GAAP EPS $2.65 vs ~$2.23 consensus; revenue $656.4M vs ~$649.94M
Bio-Rad’s Q3 earnings beat consensus on adjusted EPS and revenue, while Clinical Diagnostics growth offset continued Life Science weakness and guidance stayed unchanged.
Bio-Rad is in a multi-year reset: Clinical Diagnostics is returning to growth while Life Science remains pressured by weak academic-research and biopharma demand, with management using restructuring and R&D prioritization to rebuild margins. Its prior quarter already showed the same split—diagnostics growth offsetting Life Science softness—and the full-year outlook had been reaffirmed.
The quarter beat a modest market bar, but not by enough to rewrite the story. Non-GAAP diluted EPS was $2.65 versus a published consensus near $2.23, while revenue was $656.4 million versus roughly $649.94 million.
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue (Financial Results Highlights) | $656.4M (+0.5%) | $653.0M | $649.94M |
| Non-GAAP diluted EPS (Non-GAAP reconciliation) | $2.65 (+17.3%) | $2.26 | $2.23 |
| Non-GAAP operating margin (Non-GAAP reconciliation) | 12.8% (+100 bps) | 11.8% | |
| Free cash flow (Free cash flow reconciliation) | $65.2M (-26.9%) | $89.2M |
Clinical Diagnostics is carrying the business. The segment grew 2.8% on a currency-neutral basis to $401.8 million, led by quality systems and diabetes products. That offset a 2.4% currency-neutral decline in Life Science, where lower process-chromatography sales and academic-market weakness remain visible. 〔0〕
Underlying margins improved, but the reported cost of the reset is substantial. Non-GAAP operating margin rose to 12.8% from 11.8%, helped by restructuring and portfolio actions, while Droplet Digital PCR instruments grew more than 20%. But GAAP operating income swung to a $49.7 million loss because the quarter included approximately $77 million of restructuring charges and a $49.8 million purchased-intangible impairment tied to discontinued or reprioritized R&D programs.
Guidance was reaffirmed, not raised. Bio-Rad kept its full-year currency-neutral revenue outlook at a decline of approximately 3.0% to growth of approximately 0.5%, with non-GAAP operating margin of 10.0% to 12.0%. 〔1〕 That makes the earnings beat incremental rather than a change in the forward business trajectory, especially with free cash flow down from $89.2 million to $65.2 million.
Bottom line: Bio-Rad executed slightly ahead of a low bar and is showing real margin progress, but the improvement still depends on restructuring while Life Science remains in contraction. The filing strengthens the existing recovery story modestly; it does not yet change it.
