electroCore earnings miss revenue estimates as 2027 profit slips

Miss — Revenue $9.69M vs ~$10.25M consensus; EPS $(0.13) vs $(0.26) consensus

electroCore’s Q3 earnings show sharply lower losses and stronger VA sales, but revenue missed estimates and profitability is now expected by late 2027.

electroCore is trying to turn its VA-focused prescription business into a more efficient growth engine, using gammaCore and Quell while reducing dependence on lower-return consumer sales. The quarter shows better cost discipline, but not enough revenue momentum to clear expectations.

The top line missed the market’s bar. Revenue reached $9.69 million, up 12% year over year, but published Q3 estimates were roughly $10.25 million to $10.93 million, making this a clear revenue shortfall despite growth. The strongest reported driver was U.S. prescription revenue, which rose 25%, while consumer and TAC-STIM sales declined. 〔0〕

Profitability improved materially, but some of the improvement was not purely operating. Gross margin rose to 88.5%, operating loss narrowed to $1.56 million, and adjusted EBITDA loss fell to $0.7 million. The GAAP loss also benefited from roughly $0.4 million of indemnification-related income and a $0.1 million tax benefit, so the $1.3 million net loss overstates the underlying operating improvement.

The VA execution story is improving, but concentration remains part of the business model. Newly added representatives averaged about $210,000 per month in Q3 VA revenue versus $160,000 previously, and the top 15 VA accounts still represented 51% of VA revenue. The Lovell distribution shift had moved 91% of orders through the channel by quarter-end and is expected to reduce transaction costs, but it does not by itself solve the need to broaden demand beyond a relatively concentrated federal customer base.

The longer-term outlook is encouraging but the profitability milestone moved later. Management introduced preliminary 2027 revenue growth of 30% to 40%, but now expects the first positive adjusted EBITDA quarter by the end of 2027, versus the third quarter previously targeted after the August update. That makes the new outlook a mixed signal: faster stated growth potential, but a less immediate path to self-funding operations. The company also had only $7.5 million of cash and marketable securities against $19.8 million of liabilities at September 30, 2026, keeping financing and liquidity relevant to execution.

A new regulatory option adds upside, not current revenue. electroCore submitted a 510(k) for Quell in chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy in October, potentially opening oncology sales, but clearance remains uncertain and the filing contributes nothing to current-quarter results.

Bottom line: This was a mixed quarter leaning negative: electroCore is becoming more efficient and its VA sales engine is gaining traction, but the revenue miss and later profitability target keep the turnaround from fully clearing expectations.
