Chime earnings beat as lending drives record profit, outlook rises

Beat — GAAP EPS $0.11 vs ~$0.09 consensus; revenue $718.0M vs ~$713.3M consensus

Chime earnings beat Q3 expectations as lending products powered record transaction profit, stronger margins and another outlook increase.

Chime is evolving from a payments-led fintech into a broader primary banking relationship, using Chime Prime and lending products to raise monetization while preparing to own its bank infrastructure through the pending Stride acquisition. The prior public setup already called for roughly $705 million of Q3 revenue and $117–$120 million of adjusted EBITDA, while published consensus was about $713.3 million of revenue and $0.09 of EPS.

The quarter cleared both the company’s guide and consensus. Revenue reached $718.0 million, modestly above the roughly $713.3 million consensus, while GAAP EPS was $0.11 versus about $0.09 expected. Adjusted EBITDA of $137.3 million also exceeded the prior $117–$120 million outlook, making this a meaningful execution beat rather than a narrow revenue surprise.

Transaction profit (Transaction profit table)$530.5M (+40.7%)$377.1M

The quality of growth improved, not just the headline revenue. Transaction profit rose 41% and transaction margin expanded to 74% from 69%, while Active Members grew 20% to 10.9 million. MyPay reached $5.3 billion of origination volume with loss rates around 1%, and Instant Loans produced more than $115 million of annualized revenue.

Profitability is becoming more credible, though the reported quarter still relies partly on adjustments. Chime delivered its third consecutive quarter of GAAP profitability, with $43.7 million of net income versus a $54.7 million loss a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA benefited from $76.3 million of stock-based compensation and $17.1 million of restructuring charges being excluded, so the cleaner signal is the combination of improving transaction margin, lower operating-cost intensity and positive operating cash flow of $421.0 million through nine months.

The outlook was raised again, but the filing does not provide the new numerical targets. Management says the momentum supports raising the remainder-of-year outlook, consistent with the earlier September increase, but this release leaves the revised full-year revenue and EBITDA figures to the earnings call or supplemental materials. That makes the earnings beat clear while leaving the exact forward step-up less transparent in the filing itself.

The Stride acquisition remains a future strategic lever, not a new quarter catalyst. The transaction was already announced and remains on track for the first half of 2027, with more than $100 million of expected annual net after-tax synergies. Its importance is unchanged: owning the bank could improve control over products, funding and member experience, but none of those benefits are reflected in current-quarter results.

Bottom line: This was a clear earnings beat with unusually strong lending and margin execution, strengthening Chime’s shift from member growth toward profitable monetization. The main remaining question is how much of that momentum is incorporated into the still-unspecified raised full-year outlook.
