Beat — Adjusted NII $0.33 per share vs ~$0.32 consensus
Blue Owl Capital earnings narrowly beat expectations as investment commitments rebounded and credit quality held steady, though income and dividends remain below 2025 levels.
OBDC is a large business development company lending mainly to U.S. middle-market businesses, now trying to redeploy capital into a better lending environment while managing repayment pressure and private-credit scrutiny. This quarter shows a modest improvement in that operating story, not a reset.
The quarter narrowly beat the market’s income bar. Adjusted net investment income was $0.33 per share versus published estimates around $0.32, while GAAP net investment income was $0.34 per share. That is a small beat, and it came despite adjusted NII falling from $0.34 in the prior quarter and $0.36 a year earlier.
| Metric | Q3 2026 | Q2 2026 | Q3 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adjusted NII per share (Reconciliation) | $0.33 | $0.34 | $0.36 |
| Net increase in assets per share (Financial Highlights) | $0.37 | $0.13 | $0.25 |
| Base dividend per share (Financial Highlights) | $0.31 | $0.31 | $0.37 |
| Supplemental dividend per share (Financial Highlights) | $0.01 | $0.02 | $— |
| NAV per share (Financial Highlights) | $14.32 | $14.26 | $14.89 |
| Net debt-to-equity (Financial Highlights) | 1.13x | 1.11x | 1.22x |
| Non-accrual investments (% of portfolio) (Portfolio composition) | 0.8% | 0.8% | 1.3% |
Capital deployment recovered sharply from the weak second quarter. New investment commitments rose to $891 million from $319 million, while sales and repayments fell to $634 million from $747 million. The improvement matters because OBDC’s earnings depend on replacing runoff with new loans, and new commitments carried a 9.3% weighted-average interest rate versus 8.7% in Q2.
Credit performance was steady, but the income engine is not yet accelerating. No new issuers entered non-accrual, and non-accrual investments remained 0.8% of the portfolio. However, total investment income fell to $392 million from $401 million sequentially, and the portfolio’s weighted-average yield at fair value rose only to 10.1% from 9.9%, still below 10.3% a year ago. The rebound in originations is encouraging, but it has not yet translated into higher recurring earnings.
Dividend coverage remains adequate, not expansive. Adjusted NII of $0.33 covered the $0.31 base dividend, and the board added a $0.01 supplemental dividend. But total declared dividends remain well below the $0.37 per-share base dividend paid a year earlier, signaling that management is still distributing cautiously rather than treating current earnings as structurally higher.
Balance-sheet capacity is still available for further deployment. OBDC ended the quarter with $3.2 billion of undrawn credit capacity and remained in compliance with its financial covenants. Leverage increased modestly to 1.13x from 1.11x, but stayed below the year-ago 1.22x level, leaving room to support additional originations without changing the basic balance-sheet story.
Bottom line: This is a narrow earnings beat with better loan activity and stable credit, but recurring income and dividends are still below last year. The event modestly improves the near-term operating picture without changing OBDC’s broader story yet.
