GTM leadership transition — 2027 retirement plan; comprehensive CRO search begins
Fastly’s executive change launches a CRO search as President Scott Lovett plans to retire, creating a succession test during a high-growth stretch.
Fastly is in the middle of a genuine growth reacceleration: its edge-cloud platform delivered $183.3 million of Q2 2026 revenue, up 23% year over year, and management raised its full-year outlook. The filing introduces a succession issue into that momentum. President, Go To Market Scott Lovett plans to retire in 2027, and Fastly is starting a search for a Chief Revenue Officer. 〔0〕
The near-term disruption looks contained, but the strategic risk is real. Lovett will remain in his current role through the transition and help identify and onboard his replacement, rather than exiting immediately. 〔1〕 That matters because Fastly credits the go-to-market organization with four consecutive quarters of at least 20% revenue growth. 〔2〕
The company is framing this as an orderly handoff, not a breakdown in execution. Lovett will remain involved as a Senior Advisor after retirement, and Fastly says the broader sales, marketing, channel, and customer-success leadership bench remains in place. Still, the next CRO must preserve a recently improved enterprise-selling and cross-product expansion motion; until that person is named, execution continuity is an open question.
The separation terms are mainly transition protection, not a major strategic event. Lovett keeps his salary, commissions, benefits, and existing equity vesting through the transition period, while receiving limited severance if applicable. The material point is not the cost; it is that Fastly is replacing a recently promoted revenue leader while growth is improving.
Bottom line: This is a manageable but untimely leadership change. The orderly transition limits immediate business disruption, yet the eventual CRO appointment now becomes an important test of whether Fastly can sustain its renewed growth pace without Lovett at the helm.
