Veracyte earnings beat, but 2026 testing guidance slips

Beat — Non-GAAP EPS $0.51 vs ~$0.41 consensus; revenue $151.8M vs ~$147.2M

Veracyte earnings beat Q3 revenue and EPS estimates, but lower testing guidance and weaker Decipher Prostate volume temper the update.

Veracyte is scaling a cancer-diagnostics platform around its two main commercial engines, Afirma and Decipher Prostate, while investing in newer breast, bladder and minimal-residual-disease tests. Its stated near-term strategy is to deepen Decipher Prostate penetration, sustain Afirma growth and build a broader evidence-backed testing pipeline.

The quarter beat the published bar by a meaningful margin. Revenue reached $151.8 million versus published consensus of roughly $147.2 million, while non-GAAP EPS was $0.51 versus about $0.41 expected. The operating business grew 15% year over year, and total test volume rose 15% to 52,744. Published estimates were approximately $147.2 million of revenue and $0.41 of EPS.

The quality of growth is uneven, not uniformly accelerating. Afirma outperformed, but management specifically said Decipher Prostate volume was below expectations. That matters because testing revenue — rather than the smaller product and biopharmaceutical businesses — is the core growth engine. Product revenue did add a bright spot, rising 40% on Prosigna adoption, but it is too small to offset a softer Decipher trajectory.

The guidance reduction is the main offset to the earnings beat. The new total-revenue midpoint of $591.5 million is essentially flat to the prior midpoint, but testing-revenue guidance fell from $576–$582 million to $571–$573 million. Management also said recently launched tests will contribute minimally this year, so the near-term growth burden remains concentrated in the established franchises. That makes the quarter better than expected, but the forward operating picture less clean.

Cash generation and the buyback strengthen the financial profile, but do not fix the execution issue. Operating cash flow reached $121.3 million through nine months, while the board authorized a $100 million repurchase program. Those actions show financial flexibility and confidence in the balance sheet, but the buyback is discretionary and does not change the weaker testing outlook.

Bottom line: This was a clear quarterly earnings beat, supported by strong revenue growth and cash generation, but the lower testing outlook and Decipher Prostate shortfall keep it from being a clean upgrade to the story. The business is still growing well; the question is whether Afirma can offset softer Decipher execution while newer tests ramp.
