Beat — Adjusted EPS $0.44 vs ~$0.37 consensus; revenue $147.6M vs ~$131.0M
Sturm Ruger’s Q3 earnings beat consensus on revenue and adjusted EPS, with margins recovering as its Ruger 2030 restructuring advances.
Sturm, Ruger is midway through a business reset: its Ruger 2030 plan is reallocating capacity away from low-volume legacy products toward higher-demand platforms, while the company invests in manufacturing systems and new products. The October production suspensions were already known, but the earnings release is the first clear test of whether that simplification is improving the underlying economics.
The quarter materially beat the published bar. Adjusted EPS was $0.44 versus roughly $0.37 consensus, while revenue reached $147.6 million against approximately $131.0 million expected. GAAP diluted EPS was $0.36, up from $0.10 a year earlier, and the company returned to positive operating income.
| Metric | Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Total net sales (Income Statement) | $147.6M (+16.4%) | $126.8M | ~$131.0M |
| Operating income (Income Statement) | $6.0M | $(3.5M) | |
| Diluted EPS (Income Statement) | $0.36 | $0.10 | ~$0.37* |
| Adjusted diluted EPS (Adjusted EPS reconciliation) | $0.44 | $0.11 | ~$0.37 |
| Adjusted EBITDA margin (Adjusted EBITDA reconciliation) | 9.7% | 2.2% |
*Published consensus is generally presented on an adjusted/non-GAAP basis; the GAAP comparison is shown separately.
The improvement was operational, not just a revenue lift. Gross profit rose to $30.5 million from $19.2 million, and adjusted EBITDA margin expanded to 9.7% from 2.2%. That supports management’s claim that better product mix, cost discipline and execution are beginning to translate growth into profit, although general and administrative expense increased and the quarter still produced only a 3.9% net margin.
The portfolio reset now has financial evidence behind it, but the transition is not finished. Ruger says the suspended product families represent about $25 million of revenue and generate minimal to no profitability, so the near-term revenue risk is limited relative to the company’s roughly $148 million quarterly sales base; the harder question is whether future redesigned products can replace that volume with better margins.
The balance sheet leaves room to keep investing. Cash and short-term investments totaled about $101.4 million at quarter-end, versus $92.5 million at December 31, 2025, while nine-month operating cash flow remained positive at $24.2 million. The company also implemented its new Oracle ERP platform during the quarter, an infrastructure step that should support the 2030 plan but does not itself prove future growth.
Bottom line: This is a genuine execution beat, not merely a favorable presentation: Ruger delivered stronger sales and a sharp margin recovery while its product simplification is underway. The story improves, but the next test is whether the higher profitability survives the ongoing portfolio transition and produces durable growth.
