Miss — Q3 revenue $96.5M; FY adjusted EBITDA guide cut to $15–20M from $20–25M
Purple Innovation’s earnings show better cash generation but worsening sales pressure, a gross-margin squeeze, and a lower 2026 EBITDA outlook.
Purple is trying to stabilize a shrinking mattress business by leaning harder on direct-to-consumer sales, cost reduction, and a major early-2027 product refresh, while wholesale remains the weak link. Its balance sheet is still highly constrained: the prior quarter disclosed substantial doubt about continuing as a going concern and debt maturity pressure within the next year.
The quarter missed on the operating story that matters most: sales. Revenue fell 18.7% to $96.5 million, with wholesale dropping to $35.6 million from $51.5 million and even direct-to-consumer revenue declining to $60.9 million from $67.2 million. The published Q3 revenue expectation was roughly $105.7 million, so the shortfall was broader than the company’s emphasis on improving e-commerce conversion suggests.
| Metric | Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus / prior guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue (Financial results) | $96.5M (-18.7%) | $118.8M | ~$105.7M |
| Diluted EPS (Income Statement) | $(0.33) | $(2.71) | ~$(1.09) |
| Gross margin (Financial results) | 43.4% | 47.6% | |
| Adjusted EBITDA (Non-GAAP reconciliation) | $(0.5)M | $0.2M | |
| Operating cash flow, YTD (Cash Flow statement) | $10.6M | $(28.0)M | |
| FY adjusted EBITDA guide (Outlook) | $15–20M | $20–25M prior guide |
The guidance cut is the clearest deterioration. Purple maintained its $420 million–$440 million revenue range, but reduced full-year adjusted EBITDA expectations from $20 million–$25 million to $15 million–$20 million. That signals that cost savings and cash generation are not fully offsetting weaker volume and margin pressure.
Cash generation improved, but it does not erase the financing problem. Year-to-date operating cash flow turned positive at $10.6 million, helped substantially by collecting receivables and reducing inventory, while cash ended at $28.3 million. But related-party debt of $135.1 million is now classified as current, and the company remains dependent on a successful product refresh and further financing or refinancing to navigate its debt burden.
The EPS improvement is not a clean operating win. GAAP loss narrowed sharply, but the quarter benefited from a $14.3 million favorable change in warrant liabilities, while adjusted EBITDA was still negative and gross margin deteriorated. The core business therefore remains under pressure even though reported EPS looks much better.
Bottom line: Purple is generating cash and preparing a meaningful product reset, but this quarter says the turnaround is still losing sales momentum and profitability. The lower EBITDA outlook makes the business story modestly worse, not better, despite the improved cash-flow headline.
