Beat — Net revenue $197.6M vs ~$25.6M consensus; EPS -$1.90 vs ~-$2.35 consensus
Revolution Medicines earnings show a remarkably fast RASONQUE launch, with $197.6M in initial revenue and full-year spending guidance reaffirmed.
Revolution Medicines has moved from a clinical-stage biotech into its first commercial launch, building a global oncology franchise around RASONQUE while expanding late-stage programs in pancreatic, lung and colorectal cancers. The FDA approval and launch were already known; this quarter is the first real evidence of whether demand, reimbursement and distribution are translating into revenue. Published Q3 expectations were only roughly $25.6 million of revenue and a $2.35 per-share loss, making the launch data the central test.
The commercial launch materially exceeded the initial bar. RASONQUE generated $197.6 million of net product revenue in roughly five weeks, including channel stocking and patients transitioning from expanded access, versus consensus that was still in the tens of millions. The company says more than 5,000 unique U.S. patients received the drug and that claims have been reimbursed across plans covering more than 90% of U.S. pancreatic-cancer lives.
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus / prior guide | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Net product revenue (Financial Highlights) | $197.6M | $0 | ~$25.6M |
| Diluted EPS (Income Statement) | $(1.90) | $(1.61) | ~$(2.35) |
| R&D expense (Financial Highlights) | $417.1M | $262.5M | |
| SG&A expense (Financial Highlights) | $153.3M | $52.8M | |
| Net loss (Income Statement) | $407.5M | $305.2M | |
| Cash, equivalents and securities (Balance Sheet) | $3.7B | $2.0B at Dec. 31, 2025 | |
| FY2026 GAAP operating expenses (Financial Guidance) | $2.1B–$2.2B | $2.1B–$2.2B |
The result validates launch execution, but the revenue quality still needs to mature. The company explicitly cautions that the quarter benefited from finite early-launch effects: expanded-access transitions, patients waiting for an approved option and initial inventory stocking. That means the $197.6 million is a powerful proof of access and demand, but not a clean run-rate for future quarters. 〔0〕
The balance sheet gives Revolution room to fund the broader pipeline without taking the optional royalty tranche. Cash and marketable securities were $3.7 billion at quarter-end, and the company received another mandatory $250 million from Royalty Pharma in October. It declined the optional additional $250 million royalty financing, suggesting the launch has begun with ample funding flexibility rather than an immediate need to monetize more future royalties. 〔1〕
The quarter is operationally expensive, but spending remains within the previously communicated plan. R&D rose sharply as clinical programs and manufacturing scaled, while SG&A nearly tripled as the company built commercial infrastructure. That is a real cost burden, but the company reaffirmed full-year GAAP operating-expense guidance of $2.1 billion to $2.2 billion rather than increasing it.
International expansion adds another potential growth leg, but remains regulatory and reimbursement-dependent. The positive European CHMP opinion advances RASONQUE toward approval, while commercial availability still depends on the European Commission and country-level pricing and access processes. The filing also keeps the pipeline moving, with additional Phase 3 studies and a potential 2027 NSCLC readout preserving the longer-term platform story.
Bottom line: This is a meaningful earnings beat because the first commercial signal is dramatically stronger than published expectations, not merely because the company launched a drug. The important caveat is that some of the revenue is launch inventory and patient-transition revenue, so subsequent quarters must show durable demand rather than just a strong opening burst.
