Beat — Diluted EPS $0.60 vs ~$0.27 consensus
Sinclair’s Q3 earnings beat expectations as record political advertising drove a major 2026 EBITDA guidance increase, despite weaker core ads.
Sinclair is a leveraged local-TV and sports-media operator using the 2026 midterm election cycle to generate cash while reviewing strategic options for its broadcast portfolio; it had previously raised EBITDA guidance on political demand but was still weighing a possible Ventures separation.
The quarter cleared expectations decisively. Diluted EPS was $0.60 versus approximately $0.27 in published consensus, while revenue reached $893 million against roughly $874 million expected. Adjusted EBITDA more than doubled year over year to $213 million, helped overwhelmingly by political advertising. 〔0〕
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue (Financial Highlights) | $893M (+15.5%) | $773M | ~$874M |
| Diluted EPS (Income Statement) | $0.60 | $(0.02) | ~$0.27 |
| Adjusted EBITDA (Financial Highlights) | $213M (+113%) | $100M | |
| Political advertising revenue (Financial Highlights) | $136M (+2,167%) | $6M | |
| Core advertising revenue (Financial Highlights) | $301M (-4%) | $315M | |
| Cash and equivalents (Balance Sheet) | $659M | $866M |
The bigger change is the outlook, not the quarter alone. Sinclair lifted full-year 2026 consolidated Adjusted EBITDA guidance to $825 million-$835 million from $730 million-$760 million, a $65 million increase at the midpoint, while political revenue moved from “at least $375 million” to approximately $455 million. The upgrade says the political windfall is arriving at a scale large enough to more than offset continued softness in core advertising.
This is still a cyclical earnings improvement, not a clean underlying-demand recovery. Distribution revenue rose only 1% year over year and core advertising fell 4%; the exceptional growth is concentrated in election spending, which is temporary by nature. The filing also says new ABC and CBS affiliation agreements were reached, supporting the core broadcast franchise, but it provides no quantified financial impact. 〔1〕
The strategic-review story remains unresolved. Sinclair continues evaluating broadcast transactions, but it has decided not to separate Ventures in a standalone transaction at this time. 〔2〕 That removes a near-term separation catalyst, though it does not signal the broader review has ended.
Bottom line: This is a meaningful upgrade to Sinclair’s current business story: the political cycle is producing far more cash earnings than previously expected and pushes full-year EBITDA above the prior guidance range. The improvement is substantial, but its strongest driver is election-related and therefore not a durable replacement for weak core advertising.
