Beat — Non-GAAP EPS $2.17 vs ~$2.16 consensus; revenue $10.44B vs ~$10.12B
Qualcomm earnings narrowly beat Q4 expectations, led by automotive growth, while handset revenue plunged and Q1 profit guidance stays cautious.
Qualcomm is in the middle of a deliberate shift away from handset dependence toward automotive, IoT and data-center chips. That diversification plan was already public, including a fiscal 2027 data-center revenue target of $5 billion and a much larger long-term non-handset ambition.
The quarter beat a low bar, but did not erase the handset problem. Non-GAAP revenue was $10.442 billion versus published expectations of roughly $10.12 billion, while non-GAAP EPS was $2.17 versus about $2.16. The beat was therefore narrow on profit but more visible on revenue. Still, QCT revenue fell 8%, QCT EBT fell 26%, and QCT margin dropped five percentage points to 24% (QCT results). Handset revenue was the main drag, down 26% year over year to $5.137 billion (QCT revenue streams). 〔0〕
| Q4 FY26 | Q4 FY25 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Non-GAAP revenue (Financial Highlights) | $10.442B (-7%) | $11.270B | ~$10.12B |
| Non-GAAP diluted EPS (Financial Highlights) | $2.17 (-28%) | $3.00 | ~$2.16 |
| Handset revenue (QCT revenue streams) | $5.137B (-26%) | $6.961B | |
| Automotive revenue (QCT revenue streams) | $1.990B (+89%) | $1.053B | |
| IoT revenue (QCT revenue streams) | $1.888B (+4%) | $1.807B | |
| QCT EBT margin (Segment results) | 24% (-5 pts) | 29% |
The diversification evidence is real, but still not large enough to offset mobile weakness. Automotive revenue rose 89% in the quarter and IoT revenue rose 4%, while full-year automotive revenue increased 52% and IoT grew 8% (QCT revenue streams). That is meaningful execution against the strategy, but the combined growth is being overwhelmed by the handset contraction: total QCT revenue still declined 3% for fiscal 2026 and QCT EBT declined 13% (Segment results).
The outlook keeps the strategic promise alive but does not raise the near-term bar. Qualcomm reiterated its fiscal 2027 data-center revenue target of $5 billion and projected non-handset revenue growth of more than 60% (Management commentary). For Q1 FY27, revenue guidance of $10.4 billion–$11.2 billion is roughly around published expectations, while the non-GAAP EPS midpoint of $2.25 sits slightly below the roughly $2.29 consensus estimate. The company also said higher semiconductor input costs will pressure QCT gross margins until pricing actions fully benefit the business in the second half of fiscal 2027 (Q1 FY27 outlook).
The GAAP profit increase is mostly tax noise, not an operating reversal. Fiscal 2026 GAAP EPS rose to $12.70 from $5.01 because the company recognized a $5.7 billion tax benefit from releasing a valuation allowance, while non-GAAP EPS fell 12% to $10.54 (Fiscal 2026 Results).
Bottom line: Qualcomm delivered a modest earnings beat and showed genuine automotive momentum, but the core handset decline remains larger than the diversification gains today. The event modestly strengthens the long-term transition story without changing the near-term operating picture.
