In line — $46.1M operating loss; $9.65 diluted EPS driven by one-time sale gain
Edgewise’s third-quarter earnings show a $1.4 billion cash infusion and advancing cardiovascular trials, but no recurring revenue or operating profit.
Edgewise is now a cardiovascular-focused clinical-stage biotech, having sold its muscular-dystrophy program to Servier and concentrating resources on EDG-7500 for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and EDG-15400 for HFpEF. That strategic reset and the large cash infusion were already known; this release mainly confirms execution under the new model. The company says, “The Company received $1.396billion in upfront cash proceeds at closing.”
The headline earnings beat is accounting, not operating performance. Third-quarter diluted EPS was $9.65 versus a $0.39 loss a year earlier, but the result was dominated by the $1.348 billion gain on the sevasemten sale. Edgewise still had a $46.1 million operating loss and no product revenue, so the quarter does not demonstrate commercial earnings power. The company says, “Gain on sevasemten sale was $1.348billion for the third quarter of 2026.”

Pipeline execution is the genuinely useful part of the release. Edgewise reiterated that it expects to start the EDG-7500 Phase 3 HCM trial by the end of 2026 and disclosed that the first patient has been dosed in the Phase 2 EQUINOX-HFpEF trial for EDG-15400. Those milestones move the cardiovascular pivot forward, but the positive CIRRUS-HCM data and the transaction-funded balance sheet were already public, so the update is confirmation rather than a wholesale change in the story. The release states, “we expect to initiate our Phase 3 trial by year-end 2026.” 〔0〕 It also states, “The Company dosed the first patient in the Phase 2 EQUINOX-HFpEF trial.” 〔1〕
The cash position materially reduces near-term financing pressure, while spending is being redirected rather than eliminated. Cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities reached $1.744 billion at September 30, 2026, versus $530.1 million at year-end 2025, providing substantial funding for the cardiovascular pipeline. R&D declined because sevasemten costs left the business, while G&A rose as Edgewise expanded its organization for clinical development; that is consistent with a funded transition, not evidence of a self-sustaining business. The company says, “The decrease was primarily attributable to lower costs associated with sevasemten following its sale to Servier in July 2026.”
Bottom line: This is a funded and advancing cardiovascular pivot, but the quarter’s spectacular EPS is a one-time transaction artifact. Against what was already known, the release modestly strengthens the execution story without changing the core clinical-risk profile.
