Earnings beat estimates, but core sales and margins still retreated.

PERRIGO Co plc (PRGO) — AllSight decodes this SEC 8-K in plain English, versus what the market expected.

The headline beat is real, but it came without an upgrade to the full-year picture. Adjusted EPS of $0.50 exceeded the published consensus of roughly $0.39, while reported sales of $1.023 billion were modestly above the roughly $1.01 billion expectation. Perrigo nevertheless reaffirmed—not raised—its 2026 outlook, leaving the beat as a quarter-specific positive rather than proof that the recovery is ahead of plan (Financial Highlights; Fiscal 2026 Outlook).

The operating read remains weak beneath the beat. Core organic revenue fell 3.5%, driven by a 3.9% decline in Self Care and a 2.9% decline in Specialty Care; Infant Formula grew 23.1%, but it is excluded from the go-forward Core business and remains under strategic review. Core adjusted EPS fell 20.7% year over year to $0.46, with lower volumes, mix pressure and manufacturing under-absorption weighing on profitability (Core results; Segment net sales; Segment operating income).

Margin deterioration is the key offset to the earnings surprise. Core gross margin fell 250 basis points and Core operating margin fell 160 basis points, despite lower operating expenses. Management still expects roughly $0.60 of full-year EPS pressure from planned under-absorption, of which $0.44 had already been recognized in the first half; the reaffirmed outlook depends on meaningful second-half relief from that headwind and better category comparisons (Core results; Fiscal 2026 Outlook).

Balance-sheet progress is tangible, but not operating cash generation. The Dermacosmetics sale generated about $359 million of proceeds, substantially applied to debt reduction. Yet six-month operating cash flow was negative $31.0 million, versus positive $11.4 million a year earlier, largely as receivables and other working-capital items consumed cash. That makes the debt reduction positive, while showing it was principally asset-sale funded rather than generated by the underlying business (Cash Flow statement; Balance Sheet; Divestiture proceeds discussion).

Net versus expectations: modestly better, not a clean turnaround. The EPS and revenue beat make this better than the market’s immediate quarterly bar, but unchanged guidance, shrinking Core sales and weaker margins limit how much the filing changes the standing recovery narrative.
